A Is For ATCs

Experience Bliss ATC

I am currently hosting a series of games and creative challenges at Scrapbook Place.  In our first challenge, “A Is For ATCs”, I asked the group to create Artist Trading Cards.  It was exciting to see so many members participate – particularly those who had never made an ATC before!  I created two ATCs for the challenge – Experience Bliss for Verna (which features some really cool epoxy stickers I recently received as a RAK from Lelia!) – and The Gift Of Friendship for Dawn!

If you are new to the world of ATCs, I encourage you to give this challenge a try. I became hooked from the moment I created my first card!

I love ATCs because they are so freeing to our creative spirits.  Since ATCs are a relatively new art form, we can create ATCs without preconceived notions or expectations about what our cards should look like, thus silencing the voices of our “inner critics” before they speak.  Because the cards are so small, we can freely experiment without worrying about “making mistakes” or “wasting supplies”.  For scrappers, ATCs are a GREAT way to use up extra supplies and tiny embellishments that would get lost on a 12 x 12 page!  Finally, because ATCs are meant to be traded (although most of us keep a few of our own treasures for ourselves!) – it provides a great way to meet people, collect art, and constantly be inspired!

Friendship ATC

There are only a few rules when it comes to creating ATCs:

  • ATCs must measure 2.5 x 3.5 inches (64 x 89 mm).
  • ATCs are always traded or given away – never sold!
  • ATCs should fit into a standard plastic trading card sleeve.
  • ATC artists should sign and date the backs of their cards.

Since ATCs are a passion of mine, I’ll be sharing lots more about ATCs and plenty of cards in the days to come!
