Tag Tuesday 55: Vintage Dreams

Vintage Dreams Tag

For some reason, I don’t make tags very often. I don’t know why – I love tags – I guess I’ve just never gotten into the habit of making them. But recently, I discovered Kard Krazy – an amazing art challenge blog featuring a weekly tag challenge – so I’ve decided to join them this week for Challenge 55, These Are A Few Of My Favorite Things!

The purpose of this challenge is to use some of our favorite things and signature items so that others can get to know us through our art. So, here are a few things that Vintage Dreams reveals about me as an artist:

Color: Blue is my favorite color, and I often find myself working in monocrhromatic shades to set a mood or convey a theme. I prefer cooler palettes to warmer ones, and I love using whites and creams as neutrals.

Style: I love collage. I love beautiful things. I love romantic, feminine, vintage elements that convey a sense of nostalgia – so I try to incorporate these elements into my work whenever possible.

Inspiration: Sometimes, I see something that inspires me, and I’ll collect items that build upon that theme. When I sit down to create, I think about what inspired me, what I want to convey, then play with the pieces until I find the ones that convey what I’m feeling. When I create in this mode, it’s all about intuition and feeling. What feels right to me at that given moment?

Embellishments: Flowers: I love flowers – usually I incorporate real flowers into my work, but here, I chose to use beautiful Nostalgiques paper (another fave) as a floral backdrop.

Bling: I love pretty jewels. Here, I used the toned-down version – pearls – in keeping with the theme.

Words: I love using words to convey a thought or set a mood. Frequently I’ll use stamps for that purpose, but here, I thought the Lil Davis epoxy embellishment added the perfect touch!

Vintage Images: They say a photograph is worth a thousand words – I love this image from Altered Pages!

Ribbons/Lace: I chose a pretty organdy ribbon from Stampin Up to build upon the color, mood, and theme for this piece!

An Element Of Surprise: Often, I like to add something unexpected to my work – in this case, the pretty epoxy heart (I love hearts!) The heart is in keeping with the theme and mood, but provides an unexpected splash of color!

Since my tag incorporates pearl and reflects the beautiful baby blue, cream and white color combination that represents June for The Sisterhood Of Crafters, I am sharing my tag with “the sisters” as well!
