Have there been times in your life when you’ve felt distant from God –
when you’ve felt isolated from those around you –
when you’ve reached out to others but they have not responded in kind?
This is my prayer in the desert
When all that’s within me feels dry
This is my prayer in my hunger and need
My God is the God who provides
Perhaps you’re going through a difficult time right now. In the midst of trials, we often get so focused on our circumstances, we forget that the glory of God still surrounds us and the hand of God still sustains us.
And this is my prayer in the fire
In weakness or trial or pain
There is a faith proved
Of more worth than gold
So refine me Lord through the flames
And I will bring praise
I will bring praise
No weapon forged against me shall remain
I will rejoice
I will declare
God is my victory and He is here
In A Pastor Prays For His People, Wendell C. Hawley writes:
Others from yesteryear’s household of faith honored God
while facing overwhelming circumstances.They sang of the wonderful goodness of the Lord.
Moses, Deborah, David, and Mary teach us
to sing – when being tested;
to sing – when sorrow has us in its grip;
to sing – when we don’t feel like it;
to sing – a new songwhen we’ve passed through a crisis;
when we’ve had a fresh provision of God’s provision;
when we’ve been given songs in the night.
I first heard The Desert Song during a time when my faith was being stretched to new limits – a time when I was questioning God about some very deep losses in my life – a time when the clear-cut answers I sought were not forthcoming. This song was like manna to me. It gave me something to hold on to when the ground beneath me felt like shifting sand. It provided spiritual sustenance when I was starving.
And this is my prayer in the battle
When triumph is still on its way
I am a conqueror and co-heir with Christ
So firm on His promise I’ll stand
And I will bring praise
I will bring praise
No weapon forged against me shall remain
I will rejoice
I will declare
God is my victory and He is here
If you are walking through a desert season in your life, consider today’s two videos my personal gift of encouragement to you. Newsletter subscribers, click here to see the videos.
Video 1 contains The Desert Song set against a backdrop of uplifting imagery.
Video 2 contains the deeply moving testimony of Jill McCloghry, the songwriter who co-recorded the song with Brooke Fraser shortly after the devastating loss of her first son, Max.
All of my life
In every season
You are still God
I have a reason to sing
I have a reason to worship
I will bring praise
No weapon forged against me shall remain
I will rejoice
I will declare
God is my victory and He is here
May Jill’s courage and faithfulness in the midst of difficult circumstances be an inspiration to us all.
This is my prayer in the harvest
Where favor and providence flow
I know I’m filled to be emptied again
The seed I’ve received I will sow.

The Desert Song was very inspiring as it reinforced God's strength and presence with us always even when we hestitate to take his hand.
This puts me in mind of "Footprints in the Sand" where God carries us when we are too weak to go on. Your spirituality shines as God's graces work in your favor!
Hi-I'm your newest follower-come visit me too!

Hey! Love your blog! Just found you through tag along tuesday! What a beautiful song!
I actually find that I feel closer to God when I'm going through rough times. That I think I can handle things on my own when things are going well(which is so not true).

What an encouraging and uplifting post! This song is new to me but I just shared the link to this post in the comments on a blog of a friend of mine who recently lost his wife at age 33 and is struggling through at the moment with two little kids. Thought he could use the encouragement. Here's the link to the post he did that I left the comment on:
