Songs Of Worship #6: Shout To The Lord

For the past year, I’ve been journeying through the Book of Psalms. The more I’ve seen of the heart of God, the more my prayer and worship time has been transformed. This week, I’ve been reflecting on Psalm 77:14, which says:

You are the God who performs miracles.

I used to think of miracles as rare events, but now I view miracles as events that occur all around us. For instance, last week, my husband was driving down the middle lane of one of the busiest highways in the country at 70 mph when our vehicle died without warning. Although this was the perfect recipe for an accident, God protected him from harm. This qualifies as a miracle in my eyes – and it’s not the first miracle God has done in my life!

True worship flows when we celebrate God’s unmitigated love and mercy towards us.

This week, I’ve chosen Shout To The Lord by Darlene Zschesch for our time of worship. This song flowed out of Darlene’s personal time with God as she walked through the Book of Psalms. Her heartfelt response to God has resonated with worshipers everywhere – it’s estimated that this song is sung by 25 to 30 million churchgoers worldwide each week. It was also the closing song for American Idol’s special Idol Gives Back show in April 2008.

Shout To The Lord by Darlene Zschesh

My Jesus, my Saviour
Lord, there is none like you
All of my days I want to praise
The wonders of your mighty love

My comfort, my shelter
Tower of refuge and strength
Let every breath, all that I am
Never cease to worship you

Shout to the Lord, all the earth let us sing
Power and majesty, praise to the King
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar
At the sound of your name

I sing for joy at the work of your hands
Forever I’ll love you, forever I’ll stand
Nothing compares to the promise I have in you.

Thank you for sharing. I really needed to hear this. Life has had a way of getting me down lately! Thanks for reminding me of the wonderful love of God! Eventhough I have been a born again Christian for years every once in awhile I need to be reminded of His marvelous love.

I agree — we're surrounded by miracles. We just need to open our eyes to realize that they are not "good luck" or "coincidences".

I have been back and forth to your site all day going through your archives. What a pleasant surprise when I found this post. I myself have an ongoing Miracle and it is why I am doing my blog. Do you remember the Foot Prints in the Sand Story where the man asks the Lord why there is on one set of footprints when he was lowest and the Lord responded it was then that I carried you. Well my picture when I look back is quite different. The times in my life when I was lowest there are 3 sets of footprints. You see the Lord gave me 3 wonderful children who carry me in my time of need. God has blessed me more than I deserve.

Oh how I love that song! It has blessed me so much over the years. And I am right there with you on miracles. I read a book 30 years ago that said to look for miracles in everything big and small. I do and it's amazing what you can see when you are looking.

What a blessing for the protection for your family. I saw God protect me from a nasty accident this week but detouring me, which led to my going in to the car shop for something else and finding out an important bolt was missing. PRAISE GOD for His perfect timing and awesome miracles.

Thank you for your sweet words of encouragement! 🙂

I love this song too! I'm a big fan of Darlene Zschech, and Hillsong. We went to a worship conference with them a few months ago that changed our lives. I love Psalms also. So glad I found your blog! Came by from Natasha's!!

  19. Natasha says:

Oh yes, I know this hymn very well. When I was teaching at my previous school the girls would break out into this song at lunch, at school functions and even at sporting carnivals-they loved it and I love it too. Thanks so much for reminding me of this beautiful song.

Best wishes and thank you for joining in with Sunday Song.
    Natasha.

  22. Renee says:

I love the videos you use for these songs with the stunning photography! They are so beautiful! I also love to hear about God's protection in daily life.

We had a similar experience. One of my family members was about to turn on to a busy road, but didn't see that a car was coming at a rapid speed. Just as he started to pull out, our van sputtered and hesitated, the other car drove past! If the van hadn't hesitated at that very second, there would have been a bad accident. It's amazing how God causes miracles like this in our daily lives!

    Have a great week!
    Renee

  23. Emily says:

Thanks for writing this. It is a reminder that too often my mind is closed towards the miracles around me.

  24. Jerralea says:

I am so thankful that God is still a God of miracles, too!
