I used to have a Facebook account but deleted the account and I am happier for doing so. I got tired of the daily blow by blow agenda of narcistic people. I could care less that you are grilling, or watching TV, or having a Margarita at a bar, or traveling abroad. Oh yeh that one lets the dishonest idiots know you aren't at home so they can come burglarize your home.
The video didn't surprise me. I prefer reading a good old fashined book.I will say that I think Kindle or Nook may be a fad. They are too expensive, not everyone can afford them, you have to pay full price to download a book, and they can break. Books don't break and you can check them out of the library for free.

I use Facebook and Twitter, primarily to promote my blogs and connect with friends. These keep me very busy so I probably won't join any others for awhile but I do keep my eyes open to possibilities.

The video is great. I wasn't really surprise by any of it, the video reinforced what I already knew. Social media is definitely not a fad.

I use twitter and facebook to promote my blogs and then I have a facebook for family and friends only.

    2. That was a pretty interesting video.
Makes me want to actually pay attention to social media. I'm not drawn in as yet. I don't do hype.

    Aloha!

I use several different socail medias as I am a business woman and have found that they have helped me stay in connect with my clients and build relationships and have been contacted by those interested in my service or product. i also recently ahve been using it to promote my blog.
My nephew got me into socail media about 7 years ago or a bit longer. I know I wasnt really sure I wanted to do that. But it seeems the way most people use it and that is their way of staying in touch. Like it or not.
Hubby doesnt use any of it but I use many different apps.
I wasnt surpised by the video at all. Nor the numbers.
Though I do wish we had old fashion service face to face it is much more pleasant of over the phone.
    Blessings

I use Twitter primarily to promote my blog and connect with brands. I use Facebook for friends and family only! I'm always amazed when I hear people say "Facebook is full of drama" and then they delete their page. There can only be drama if you allow it… Be selective in the friends you accept/request, and always remember the block button is a click away. Social media can be fun, educational, rewarding and "drama free" when you choose not to entertain nonsense…

The video didn't change my views about social media, and I wasn't surprised by anything in the video.

I use Facebook primarily to look at family and friends' pictures and to connect with people who aren't callers or e-mailers.

I am not surprised by the video. I can remember seeing kids-little ones, plugged in all the time with walkman's (remember those- they seem so primitive now) and thinking "that" will change kids to expect different things growing up. As they grew up, their walkmans were replaced with Ipods and MP3 and then the digital world seems to have exploded. They are now madly texting, wedded to facebook and other social media. I think in many ways social media can be good, (think of the benefits in getting out really important messages) but in others not so good. I don't like how "tuned out" to face to face conversation or a telephone, that kids are who have grown up on this- and many older generations who are now hooked on texting and social media. I don't think that it's a fad. I think that it will get bigger and as technology advances there will be new forms that we can't imagine right now.

    Very interesting post!

Twitter is my favorite social media platform. It's great for connecting with other bloggers as well as brands/companies. I also use Facebook but not as often and I don't associate it with my blog (it's more for my personal use).

There is a lot of good and bad with social media.I use twitter @mukweto facebook and I blog mukweto.blogspot.com I like that social media evens people out and gives everyone the chance to do what they want to do. It is wonderful to be able to get the word out a cause you are passionate for and get support beyond your small circle of influence. but on the other hand it is kinda scary that so much information is trusted to the web, people no longer have to remember much, (scary) and some even lose basic human interaction skills. ( but some improve) For the teens that get picked on via social media that has to be hard because you not only have to recover online but in real life. For business I think it makes companies behave a little better.

    Hi,

I am absolutely intrigued with social media. I have two blogs that are linked to Facebook and Twitter, and I'm on Linkedin. I'm trying to launch a social media campaign on my job, because we are way behind. I want to take classes and workshops to really learn more about it. Thanks for the video.

    Have a great weekend.

    Blessings,
    Judy

I use Facebook and Twitter primarily to promote my blog (by having my blog post links automatically posted at each location). I've started getting a little interactive on Facebook, but will need to carve out more time to be more proficient/dedicated to any of the Social Networking modes…not sure if I want to dedicate more time than I already do, but it might be a necessary evil. 😉

I wasn't surprised by the video – I'm part of the Nielsen Group and saw a lot of that come through in survey form for input – so I was nodding a lot through the video… 😉

Have a great Memorial Day Weekend! 🙂

Well I use twitter and faceook. On facebook I have a blog page and a personal page. I am not a huge twitter fan and just use it to tweet out blog posts that I like.

I am a blogger (rogueartistsspeak.blogspot.com/) and even though I have a Facebook account, I rarely use it.

I am not at all surprised at the stats.

I started my blog for artists, but it has morphed into something quite different, and I am very happy with it and with the contacts I have made in the last year. The world grows smaller and smaller every minute!!

Hi there, I love this video. I saw it a while back and totally believe businesses must be engaged in SM. It's not an option if they want to do well. I am not overboard on applying some of the media methods, since they are overly abused by many.
SM is still growing and taking on new demensions. I know top Tech Companies who are (your Yahoo, HP, Nvidia, etc.) strategizing to get further ahead of the SM marketing mix. It has exploded. 🙂

  19. Becca says:

I love facebook. I use twitter, but mostly for entering giveaways.

  20. Blogger Broadcast says:

I totally believe that consumers trust people who they built a relationship with rather than direct advertisements from the companies.

  21. Jeanette says:

I love twitter – but i really dislike FB on a personal and business level. I deleted over 200 people from my FB account – all real friends or people I've interacted with in life – just because it's way to personal. They don't need to know every time I like something or comment.
Stopping by from the Alexa Hop. Have a great holiday 🙂

As for your question – I love social media…it's a great advertising tool and it makes it easier to access information on-demand. Yes, there is a lot of "junk" out there too, but I think it's like anything else in life…you have to take the good with the bad. 🙂

I'm boring. I just blog. Period. Once in a great while I will hop onto Facebook to see some pictures but other than that I just stay in my little blogland and participate in a message board I founded about 8 years ago.

I find these things quite interesting…I just don't find time enough to do all of them…so I do what I love.

Thanks for a fascinating and thought provoking link to Alphabe-Thursday.

You are really great at making us think.

    A+
