WOYWW – What Lurks Below

WOYWW 2012 - Paisley Button
Happy WOYWW to you, dear friends! First, for those of you who have been politely but silently scratching your heads for the past few weeks wondering what that crazy acronym WOYWW stands for, it means What’s On Your Workspace (or Workdesk) Wednesday, and it’s a meme that my friend Julia at Stamping Ground created a few years back that took the crafting world by storm! Every week, people all around the world take photos of their work spaces and post them for all of the world to see – scary, right? Sometimes you’ll see beautifully organized craft rooms. Sometimes you’ll see creative messes. Sometimes you’ll see beautiful projects in various stages of completion. Sometimes you’ll see crafty pets upstaging their owners. It’s fun… it’s fab… and it’s open to all!

WOYWW - Sorting 1

This week, I got the bright idea to start digging through some of the many mystery bags and boxes that are beginning to overtake me in The Paper Palace. It’s a new year… time to get things in order and find forgotten stash to use or lose, right? The problem with this noble sounding philosophy is that I forget how easily and quickly I get overwhelmed by stuff. I’m good at spreading things out and sorting it… I’m a little more challenged when it comes time to figuring out what to do with it all!

1-24-12 WOYWW - Sorting Close-Up

I did manage to toss a few things I decided I was never going to use… and I found inspiration in the stack as well! I ended up creating a card out of a few odds and ends I came across – I’ll share that in another post!

      Hi Grace,

WOYWW is a lot of fun – full of wonderful friendly people and inspiring blogs – I hope you’ll stop by Julia’s when you have a chance and check it out – if you decide to participate, let me know so I can stop by! 🙂

Aha! I think it must be the New Year or something as so many people seem to be doing a major sort it with their stash… I will just wait until I have to move again… it happens so regularly that a good sort out is a necessity!!

I love WOYWW! I find all sorts of fun things I need to do, make, own etc each week. I think I am learning to say ‘thats awesome’ and not have to own everything though! Hope you have a great week. Thanks for sharing! Vickie #27

Oh and I have candy if you fancy a shot,

  8. Ann B says:

If I sorted out by spreading everything out tow things would happen – I wouldn’t be able to move for ‘stuff’ and then I would probably have to close the door on it all. I’m better doing it a bit at a time, otherwise I get overwhelmed.
    Good luck with the sorting.

Well done on the big sort out – we all need it from time to time (I seem to be doing it far too often) (Hazel, WOYWW 28) x

Thanks for explaining the acronym, i had no idea lol!

You’re welcome! I used to explain it every week on my posts but then, quite frankly, I got lazy. Thankfully, someone asked about it last week and reminded me that not everyone who reads the WOYWW posts actually participates in WOYWW… so I’ll try to do a better job of getting back to the basics and explaining it to the uniniated! 🙂

      Have a great day! 🙂

Ah – I recognize this box! Maybe, I can comment here!
I sorted and sorted and am so happy. And amazing what I unearthed. If I can only keep it up LOL!

You need a TO DO box 🙂 Not that it works for me, but in THEORY it’s a good idea. Then, when the mojo goes walkabout you can drag out a project and just work on it.

    Happy WOYWW!

PS if your commenting opens in a new window, I usually succeed – if not, if you see this for approval I’ll consider it a Blogger miracle!

      Hi Mary Anne

Love the concept of a TO DO box and I think I’ve tried that in the past! The challenge I have is that I have WAY more ideas than I have time to do them all – so whether I am making lists or filling boxes – it does not take long to create overwhelm!

But you now have me brainstorming…which means my productivity for the day will be shot, lol – but I may have some great ideas to share in the upcoming weeks! 🙂

  13. Lou says:

Love the discription you have written for WOYWW, lots of people seem to be sorting out crafty stash’s hope you don’t get too overwhelmed and that you find more inspiration Have a great week Lou #84

  14. You look so incredibly organised!! 🙂

  15. wow, those mystery bags look so inviting! i would love to help you organize and rescue the stuff you tossed!
happy WOYWW and thanks for sharing,
    hugs, peggy aplSEEDS

  16. Pat Langley says:

Lots of supplies! Sometimes it’s just good to go through it all and find new things; different ideas. Good luck, but I would have trouble getting rid of anything.

  17. sandysewin says:

I’ve found the best way to deal with the overwhelming-ness of organizing is to make lists as I go along. Whenever something inspires me and I get a great idea, instead of stopping and making it RIGHT THEN (which is what we all want to do, lol) I add it to the list of inspired ideas.

Then, when the mojo is running low, you have a list of great ideas to turn to. 🙂

    Happy Woyww,

Great idea! I actually started building my card with a few paper scraps I found in the midst of my sort (you can see that in the photo) but what you can’t tell is that the scraps are sitting on the back of a mega-size paint chip that I also found which was the inspiration for my card! I ultimately found a few embellishments and set them aside for later that night – but I love your idea – we all need a go-to list for our low mojo days! 🙂

  18. Hee hee I sort and sort and sort and then I step back and think, I need to re-sort! Isn’t it fun, just to pick up all our bits and pieces and wonder what it will end up being?

I am so lucky that I found WOYWW. I must admit, my productivity at work on those days has almost gone down to zilch. Sshhh, don’t tell my boss….

This is my first week on WOYWW and I’m having fun checking out everyone’s posts and stuff! I’m in reorganizing/purging mode myself.

  20. Twiglet says:

    Fascinating little goodie bags!

  21. Julia dunnit says:

Quite a lot of lurkers there Ramona. I don’t have to dig too far to find them either…blank shaped albums I thought were a great idea at the time are my downfall!

  22. DebWillis says:

ooooooh I want to play with all those goodies in your pic! i am long overdue for a sort and tidy, having expanded into a second room I find myself running back and forth, so I need to figure out what needs to go where to be more useful. I use my cuttlebug most days, but it can’t stay out as it takes up too much room, so it lives in its box on a shelf. only problem is, I use the top of the box to pile up other stuff ontop, making it impossible to get to!

    Thanks for sharing, happy woyww

  23. I often find inspiration when I’m going through stash too. I used to put that inspiration on hold until I was done with my sort but now I’ve learned to grab that tiger by the tail and hop on for the ride. I may be less tidy but I’m having more fun. Happy WOYWW.

  24. sandra says:

Ohhh I do love a mystery bag. I think you have a great system happening and it does look very organised. It is perfectly ok to do a version of what everyone else is creating. That saves so much time thinking about what we should create.

  25. Jacqueline says:

Wow, I wouldn’t mind going through your workspace. I could probably find some creative treasures.
Stopping by from the Alexa Drop Hop!

  26. Famfa says:

Ahhhhhhh a time to clear and sort. Good forthe mind. I sort all year long but it doesn’t make a lot of difference. Good luck with yours.

  27. Elizabeth says:

Hi, I’m all for sorting out, especially if you discover items you’ve forgotten and even better if you’re inspired to create something as you go 🙂 Enjoy the rest of your sorting session and I look forward to seeing all the creations that result from it. Elizabeth x #45

  28. Regular visitor stopping in from the Alexa hop today :o)

I use to do a “What’s in your purse/bag” photo meme and this totally reminds me of that!

It’s always good when you can go through your stuff and find great surprises you’d forgotten about or finally have the heart to par down those things you probably won’t ever use.

  29. Janeil says:

Following you from Thirsty Thursday. What a great idea. Check me out too if you have a minute…

  30. I’m coming though on the Alexz hop. When I start to clean up our clutter I have the same problem. I do great at sorting it all out but once I’m done I still have no clue where to put it.

  31. Never heard of WOYWW before, but I do have things I need to occasionally look/digg through to sort, or else it gets a bit out of hand easily.

Found you over at blog hop, hope to see you come by 😉

  33. Cathy says:

I am having a quick jog through everyone’s desk as I am slightly late this week. Sorting out is good, especially if you get surprises! Thanks for sharing.
