WOYWW: ATCs & Books

WOYWW Anniversary ATC from Bridget Larsen

Happy WOYWW dear friends! Another week has passed and that means it’s time to share What’s On My Workspace This Week!

First, I received a beautiful  WOYWW Anniversary ATC from Bridget Lawsen of Me And My Photography! This beautiful card comes all the way from Australia! Don’t you just love the colors? The added sparkle really makes this beauty pop!

Next, I’m surrounded by books! I snapped a shot of all the books that are currently in my review pile – they makes quite a tall stack on my nightstand! Several I have completed and are pending review; a few I’m in the process of reading; the remainder are in my To Be Read pile.

Books I'm Reading

This week, Jen from The Book Blogger Hop asked about our book review and book-keeping habits. Here is my response to her questions:

Usually I write my reviews upon completion of a book. However, I am currently behind as I’ve been focused on the Biannual Blogathon. My Wrap-Up post details my accomplishments as well as some great Mini-Challenges you might be interested in!

When I’m done, I move my favorites to a “keeper shelf” where they are either filed by subject or – for special books – on a nearby shelf for books that deserve a second read! The problem is, all of my shelvers are overflowing – which means I’ll soon be going through the painful task of reducing my library!

In other news – I’m wondering whether to purchase a pool – for my cats! To get the scoop, visit Wordless Wednesday – Super Soaker!

Have a fabulous week reading, creating and exploring everyone’s workspaces!

Wow, Ramona- How did you get involved with receiving ATC cards. Those are Artist Trading Cards, right? That is beautiful! I am so behind- so behind…books, reviews…but enjoying my family- and SUmmer days. I did write a poem today so that made me happy. You are so organized! Off to see WW!

      Hi Dawn,

Yes – ATCs stand for Artist Trading Cards and I received this one as part of the 3rd Anniversary WOYWW swap that Julia (WOYWW hostess) organized for us awhile back! Bridget generously volunteered to send me this card – isn’t it gorgeous?

I’ve swapped with other groups before and have a binder where I keep my collection but for the past year, I haven’t had the time to do as much swapping as I would like. There are some great groups out there where you can swap, though, as well as some individuals on the WOYWW list that would swap with you if you were interested.

I would love to swap with you when life calms down a bit! 🙂

I used to read A LOT. Now I spend more time crafting, but I just got a new book that I’m looking forward to reading PLUS I will be offering a review on my blog. It’s my first time giving a book review – Do you have any helpful tips?

Btw, I would love to have you join us at Tuesday Alchemy http://tuesdayalchemy.blogspot.com 🙂

    Happiness!

Congrats Corinne for your upcoming book review – if you send me the link when you post it I would love to come by and take a look!

At the blogathon that I just participated in this weekend, a number of bloggers shared GREAT mini-challenges that provided a virtual education on many aspects of Blogging! One of the challenges was called How To Write Good Book Reviews – you should find it very helpful!

I am in the process of building a Navbar for my site. One of the categories I DID complete this weekend was my Book Reviews section – so if you want to take a peek around, you can see some of the books I’ve reviewed! I have definitely grown over time – and you will too! For your first one, though, focus on giving a good overview of the book (enough to give the reader an idea of what the book is about without giving too much away) and share what you did and didn’t like about the book. Let us know if you would or wouldn’t recommend it and why. Make sure you include a picture of the book. As you start to write, and read other reviews, you will start to devolop your own style. Always aim for original content.

Best of luck to you! 🙂

Really nice collection of books on your nightstand. Enjoy reading them. And such a lovely ATC! I love the added touch of the sparkle. dani31

  6. A shelf of books waiting for you to read them is always a good thing! Happy reading. 🙂

Boy, that’s a lot of nonfiction. I tend to mix and match more (although I do occasional binges in one or the other.)

You have a rather neat system for organizing your books. It’s always interesting to hear how others do things. I have my fiction all sorted alphabetically by author and my nonfiction grouped in broad categories (crafts, cookbooks, biographies, spiritual development, health, etc.) And then there are the boxes of “can’t fit on my bookshelves” books. I need to either weed or build myself some more bookshelves.

It sounds like our systems are similar – right down to the boxes for books that currently don’t fit on bookshelves!

I enjoy fiction but have been on a non-fiction binge for the longest of times. But – I just enjoyed my latest novel so much – I’m thinking of finding a few more good novels to give myself a bit of a summer break! 🙂

Beautiful ATC from Bridget, I received one from her too and love it. Now that is some reading list you have there – it must take you all night, every night to get through so many! Happy WOYWW, Anne x #57

  9. Zoe says:

What a lovely ATC. I’m a voracious reader, usually 4-5 per week, and I always appreciate true reviews when picking a new one.

    Happy WOYWW

I got one of Bridget’s cards too. I love reading. What a bleak world it would be without books to carry us away to other worlds, experiences…

      I could not agree more!

I read mostly non-fiction these days, but I just finished reading Harriet Beamer – the first novel I’ve read in awhile – and what a DELIGHTFUL story that was! I visited the author’s site and was thrilled to learn that she has a follow-up to this book coming out next summer – something to look forward to! Looking forward to reviewing this on my site! 🙂

  11. Rachel says:

That is an interesting collection of books. I wouldn’t mind having a pile of books to read on my desk.

  17. Belinda says:

Very beautiful ATC and isn’t so much fun to receive international mail. I was like a big kid when I received mine.

Looks like fun times reading. Reading is another love of mine and each summer I set up a list of books I like to read and then jump in. I read every night and sneak in time throughout the day. I always thought it would be cool to put a review up in my blog which is fairly new. So maybe I will check out that link you posted earlier.

Thanks for sharing and if you have time to come play at my desk come on over!

      Dear Belinda,

I’m so glad that you enjoy reading to and I DO want to encourage you to consider reviewing the books you read as a hobby! It is so much fun to not only share the books you love with others who share your passion, but to connect with other bibliphiles as well!

For those of you who are interested in reviewing, another great link to check out is the Book Blogger Blog Hop link that is posted at the bottom of today’s post. It’s a good way to meet other book bloggers – to get a feel for what they do and the diversity of their approaches – and to see what is happening out in the literary world at large! 🙂

  18. there are books on your shelf that seem very interesting. happy WOYWW!

Have a great week, and enjoy WOYWW .

I say buy the pool! We had two lovely Main Coons sadly no longer with us. They are not only beautiful looking but a beautiful natured cat. We have a fab picture of Bart who managed to get himself up a bird house pole and into the bird house! He just needed to open his mouth and stay still! Hope you get through your reading pile. WOYWW Hugs from Helen 89

  21. Peggy says:

your stack of books looks like mine I must get busy… have a great day !

  22. sandeeNC says:

Wow, had no idea there was a breed of cats that like water so much! My vote is to get them their own pool and then supply us with lots of pictures of them using it. For me thinking cats does NOT equal water! lol That was fascinating! waving the #49 from the hills of North Carolina 🙂

  23. What a beautiful ATC! My to read stack is rather large too. I mean, I have several shelves of unread books, but I keep some set aside to read next or soon. Sometimes I end up changing that stack around but usually I read from it. I recently cleaned out one of my large shelving units in the living room and it wasn’t nearly as painful as I thought it would be. I still have the other unit to do. That one will be painful but only because I have to move my craft table and piles under it out from in front of the bookshelf. Judy #135

  24. I am also only showing my ATCs today cos My one got lost in the mail and luckily Gabrielle had a spare one so she re-sent it. Happy WOYWW. Bella 145

Briget has been busy! I’m sure I’ve see n three of those fabulous ATC’S!!! Lucky you! I once did a review on a book ‘waiting’ to be published (I’m such a slow reader it took ages) and then I kept finding things wrong, half way through the book the main man, changed from having black hair to being brown and then some one who’d been killed off suddenly turned up…and then someone who was supposed to be in another country was phoned to ‘come and help’ …”I’ll be there in five minutes!” odd! Could he telliport! (spelt wrong) Bit late, as no internet much yesterday! HaPpY WoYwW ((Lyn)) #32

  28. Sarah says:

Nice webpage design, very interesting and appealing.

I feel your pain about giving books away, though if I decide to do that, it’s because I’m not in that book (or kind of book ) anymore, so it isn’t so painful 🙂

Good luck getting caught up in your reviews. I’m behind too for no real reason 🙂

Found you by book blogger hop
