Last week, I shared that I have not been sleeping well.
I also revealed the reason for my insomnia.
A lot of you could relate!
From your stories, I learned that
Bed Hog Syndrome is a national epidemic.
I am still processing the comments!
This week, I thought I’d share a possible hypothesis
On how Bed Hog Syndrome starts.
When you first bring a kitten into your home,
It’s just like bringing home a newborn.
Your motherly instincts kick in.
You adore that kitten.
You’re protective of your little angel.
You don’t want to let your precious baby out of your sight!
Night rolls around.
You don’t want to leave something so tiny and helpless alone.
Your kitten doesn’t want to be left alone either…
So, you allow your sweet little baby into your bed.
At first, things are fine.
Your kitten snuggles in a little fur ball in a tiny corner of the bed.
You lie as still as can be,
So as not to disturb or crush your kitten during the night.
The next thing you know, your baby is growing up!
Soon a tiny tiger is tackling your toes and
Your ferocious mountain lion is climbing your legs!
But your leaping leopard is so precious,
You cannot resist his charms!
If this sounds familiar to you – beware!
That precious kitten that is causing you Toe Terror today
Will soon be tomorrow’s Bed Hog!
Look closely.
You can already see the Napoleanic gleam of
Victory in Tsunami’s eyes!
Who can relate to Bill Dana’s quote?
I had been told that the training procedure with cats was difficult.
It’s not. Mine had me trained in two days!

That is too funny! We trained Tabitha, our kitten who is still missing, to be content with sleeping on our bedroom floor or on a couch, but not our bed. Our newest kitten, Sheela, is too scared to even visit our rooms, which is just fine. We have been helping her to gain confidence and to enjoy human touch without fearing it. When we got her, she was in fight-or-flight mode all the time. She must have had a rough time where she came from.
Thanks for hosting the hop!

Oh Christina, I’m so excited to hear that you got Sheela – I will be over shortly to link up and to check out her photos!
I’m sure with your love she will acclimate in no time.

That kitty is too cute! My husband decided when we got our first dog “no pets in the bed”. Best rule we ever made. 🙂
Twitter: CreateWithJoy1
says:
Your dogs are adorable Susie!
I don’t mind kitties on the bed (shh! don’t tell!) but dogs are a different story.
Of course, my husband feels differently.
Guess it’s a good thing we don’t have dogs or I’d probably be sleeping on the floor!
Sounds about right! Cat’s doing the training!
LOL!!!!Maybe a terror but awesomely cute!

I know! He’s Napoleonic – but how can you resist him, right?!
I have a bed hog that likes to stare at me until I wake up! :o) x
Twitter: CreateWithJoy1
says:
How funny!
Mine stare… and if that doesn’t work – they nudge, chirp and paw!
I haven’t had the pleasure of sharing my bed with a cute little kitty and from your description, I probably won’t. I will heed the warning.

Aaah, you think that now, but when the right kitten comes along, you too will succumb to his precious charms
(and then it will be too late!)
We had our cat trained to stay off the bed – then I got pregnant. She knew before we did and started sneaking in bed after we were asleep. She started sleeping by my feet but by 6 months along she was cuddling right up to my bump. We bar her out of the bedroom at night now (I don’t want her trying to cuddle baby in his bassinet) and her meowing about breaks my heart sometimes!
Twitter: CreateWithJoy1
says:
How cool that she cuddled your bump – she probably loves the baby and doesn’t understand why she can’t curl with the baby!
(Of course, that bassinet would also make a cozy place for a cat nap…)
Ah ha ha, my cats are such bed hogs that they even fight each other over the domain!

Yes, my boys do not like to share – they want it ALL to themselves! People. Beds. You name it, they claim it!
Ohhhh I can completely relate to that quote!
Happy WW 🙂

This is great! It’s still rather early Tuesday afternoon here, so as soon as I have the post up, I’ll come here and link up. Thank you again! (And I have to figure out my own link-up, lol).
I can SO TOTALLY relate. I have been up since 2:45 a.m. because I have two cats that LOVE to sleep on my head. I’ll gently coax them off of my pillow, only to have them on it again when I’m asleep. Hehe. I’m thinking I might go take a nap before I attempt tomorrow’s post. Hehe.

Cats. So many tricks!
Tsunami is a smart cat, except for one thing. He has never figured out how to open doors!
So, if you close a door – invariably he wants to be on the OTHER side of it –
and he will either wail and raise a ruckus or stick his paw under the door and start banging it until you can’t ignore it any longer!
Legend, on the other hand, views doors as challenges!
He takes ANY closed door as a personal affront and MUST get into it!
So – every cabinet in the house he is constantly trying to open.
All night I hear “clank clank clank” as the doors bang back and forth until he manages to squeeze his body in!
And, the bags under my eyes just grow darker and darker…
Twitter: ccliteraturegrl
says:
I did take a nap! Haha…and yippee! I finished the post.
Yeah, I’ve tried the “door” thing – both cats either bang their heads against it and open it OR they scratch like crazy until we open it, haha. Can’t win. I’m still going to bed early…let’s see…it’s 9pm here…yeah…my bedtime!

Glad you got some rest! I think it’s in their DNA… a cat cannot stand a closed door!

I think I have sitting at the computer hog syndrome. My cat will not leave my lap–makes for tricky typing!
Twitter: CreateWithJoy1
says:
The only reason I don’t have that problem is that my cats are bigger than my lap!
But they both crawl up on my husband’s chest and he can never get anything done!
I know my daughter would relate to this post. Her Ravioli is also a bed hog. Too funny how they just take over without a qualm. 🙂

I can definitely relate. I’ve been there with two cats, our dog and my husband. Now we just let Mollipop sleep in the bed!
Thanks for linky love. We are having terrible weather here and I am forced to shut down for tonight. I will have to blog hop in the morning.

Your explanation of what happens is spot on as is Bill Dana’s. Calista Josette snuggles in a little corner now, but the rest of us have taken over. Purrs and hugs, the kitties at http://www.thecatonmyhead.com, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Josette

Have a great day!!

I hear ya on the terror that stalks the night. I’ve had to shut the bedroom door against the puppies. My forearms look like I’ve been in a fight with Wolverine and things are not going my way. Even their mama, Sneakers, will want refuge from the middle of the night play fights. Don’t think I’ve gotten a full night’s sleep since the little bug….erm, dear puppies were born!
Twitter: CreateWithJoy1

Puppies? Did you say Puppies? Details please, LuAnn!
(And I am loving those names! Wolverine – I want to hear how that one was named!)
Hello there! It’s my first time at your party and it’s so lively and fun! Thanks for hosting! We have 2 black cats, Tango and Cash and I suffer from Nighttime Paralysis Syndrome! Can’t move at all because my Black Panthers for some reason enjoy laying on my legs! lol..I love them but I would like to enjoy at least my side of the bed which is now basically a sliver of the bed thanks to them! lol..Have a lovely week! Lizy
Twitter: CreateWithJoy1
says:
Tango and Cash – love it!
I think that Legend read your post. For the past few weeks, he has taken to sleeping on my legs (he NEVER used to do this!)
Needless to say – I’ve now goe the Nighttime Paralysis Syndrome too!
I think we are going to have to start a medical journal on WW! 🙂
Much as I loved my cat and miss her now, I had to shut her out of the room at night or I would get no sleep. She would cuddle all of fifteen minutes, then would be all over me looking for attention. By contrast, if she went in with my mom, she’d curl up at her feet and sleep all night. Go figure!
Twitter: CreateWithJoy1
says:
They always know who the softie is in the house.
My husband has no trouble shutting the door and ignoring them!
Me? Every time they cry they’ve got my attention!
Excellent hypothesis; too late in our household! It’s THEIR bed now!
I had no idea that cats suffer the same Bed Hog Syndrome that afflicts dogs. My dogs barely have 18 pounds put together and they still take up more room on the bed than I do. It appears that cats also have the same training aptitude as dogs — training their humans in a mere 2 days.
Twitter: CreateWithJoy1
says:
Hmmm… makes you wonder who’s really at the top of the food chain?!
I can relate to the bed hogger dilemma TOTALLY! My Siamese cat Koo Koo is the biggest bed hog of them all. My late older cat, Pinky taught Koo Koo the ropes in their house and the two were the Queens of Sheba, so to speak. So, I say, ‘you can teach new cats old tricks’ and I mean it!
Twitter: CreateWithJoy1

What a great take on this – and so true!
Legend definitely is learning all of Tsunami’s tricks!
Oh yes; I’m familiar with the Bed Hog Syndrome. Happy WW 🙂

When we had a cat, we would not allow her to sleep with us. Good thing. But, after we had kids we did not stick so closely to the rule of not allowing little things in our bed. When you have more than one child sandwiched between you and your hubs then the meaning of bed hog takes on a whole new meaning. Those days are long past us, unlike an pets habitual routines of claiming nightly dibs on a plush, cozy bed. I think this is the way it’s gonna be for ya. You just can’t teach a old cat new tricks. Come to think about it, can you teach a cat tricks at all? lol Thanks for hosting the weekly WW hop!
