Revelation by Sue Edwards – Book Review

They say you should not judge a book by its cover – but I was drawn to Sue Edwards’ Revelation – Discovering Life for Today and Eternity from the start. Sue’s book is easily one of the most beautifully designed bible studies I have seen. Everything from its gorgeous cover and pretty interior borders to the feel of the book in one’s hands to its roomy pages that leave plenty of room for writing invites you to slow down and spend time with God.

I believe these things are important, because a visually appealing book like Sue’s encourages you to return to your bible studies on the days when your willpower is waning!

I love the biblical book of Revelation. Did you know that Revelation is the only book in the Bible in which God promises to bless those who read and heed its words? Did you also know that Sue’s bible study is unique among studies on the book of Revelation?

Unlike other studies, Sue does not delve into the entire book of Revelation, nor does she focus on the prophetic aspects contained in the book’s interior chapters. Instead, Sue concentrates on the first three chapters and the last two chapters of the book (the exterior chapters).

Sue chose this approach because she believes that these chapters are the ones most pertinent to Christians today. While I don’t entirely agree with that assessment – I believe that the entire book of Revelation is of extreme importance to Christians, and studying prophecy is more relevant now than ever before – I do believe that an in-depth study of the exterior chapters is entirely warranted and long overdue.

The majority of Sue’s Revelation bible study focuses on Paul’s letters to the seven 1st century churches in the province of Asia, which many believe represent the various types of churches that have existed throughout the ages. In this study, you’ll explore how these letters apply to us today, and how the book of Revelation helps prepare us for eternity and our final home.

Revelation – Discovering Life for Today and Eternity is part of the Discover Together Bible Study Series from Kregel Publications – a group of Inductive Bible studies that are designed for both individual and group use.

One of the nice things about this study – and the other studies in this series – is its tiered approach. You can choose the level of study you complete each week, based on your time schedule. If your time is limited, you can complete the basic series of questions in about 60 to 90 minutes. If you want to dig deeper, Sue provides additional research questions that will require you to explore external resources.

You can also gain access to additional study materials, such as videos and the leader’s guide, by scanning the QR codes throughout the book!

If you are primarily interested in the prophetic or end-time aspects of Revelation, this is not the bible study for you. But, if you would like to learn more about the early church, how Paul’s letters to the churches apply to us today, or would like to strengthen your faith in general, this is a great bible study to consider!

I’m really enjoying her studies and may pick up some more of them in the future (I’m going through Ephesians now, which I’ll be reviewing in a few months, but she has written several more that I wouldn’t mind going through as well!)
