The Heart Stone – Book Review
Have you ever meticulously re-arranged your life to avoid someone you decided you’d be better off without?
If so, join the club.
For six long years, Jessica MacAllister had done everything possible to make sure she would never see Andrew Lawson – a man from her past – a man she knew she could never trust – again.
She started a new life. She unlisted her phone number. She did everything in her power to ensure that she and her son Jacob – the boy that Andrew had relinquished his parental rights to six years ago – were safe.
So – how could it be that out of the blue, Andrew Lawson had invaded the safety of her home and was on the other end of her phone line, demanding that she make arrangements to let him see “his” son?
She didn’t know – and she wasn’t about to wait around and find out.
Sensing danger – even if she doesn’t quite understand why – Jessica flees with Jacob to Santa Cruz to visit her uncle George – a former missionary to the Philippines who is struggling over the recent amputation of his leg. There she learns that George is in need of her help – and a new home.
In the process of trying to protect her son and help her uncle solve his problems, she meets Nick – a fireman who awakens all sorts of conflicted feelings within her, and seems too good to be true. She also learns why George never married. How will he react when he discovers that Evelyn – the woman who broke his heart decades ago – is now trying to find him?
The Heart Stone by Sherry Kyle is a compelling story. From the opening sentence, I was drawn into the book. I could not wait to learn more about each of the characters and find out how each of their situations would resolve. I found the storyline captivating and would definitely recommend this book for your summertime reading list! In addition, the questions in the back of this book make this a great selection for your book club as well.
