Rainbows For Rainy Days – Book Review

Have you ever noticed that sometimes the biggest surprises come in the smallest packages?

Rainbows For Rainy Days – 40 Devotional Readings That Reveal God’s Promises by Catherine Campbell is a perfect example of this analogy. If you were to judge this book by its pretty little cover, you might anticipate a book filled with rainbows and sweet positive thoughts wrapped in a neat little bow. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Don’t get me wrong. The book contains pretty photos and illustrations (although, surprisingly, not as many rainbow photos as one might think). More importantly, however, Rainbows For Rainy Days is filled with beautiful devotions that will speak to your heart during those moments of your life when you most need to hear how much God loves and cares for you.

Catherine writes the words that God has spoken into her own life during her own times of need. In the Preface, she shares the story of a woman who has read this book 36 times – and is still reading it! When Catherine jokingly tells her she needs to request a new devotional for Christmas., the woman firmly tells her no – “not until God stops blessing me through this one!”

Each of Catherine’s devotionals opens with a Bible verse to reflect on and contains a beautiful photograph or illustration to meditate on as well. Some of the devotionals illuminate the verse that is shared; others contain stories and lessons from her life. Each devotional is easy-to-read and highly relatable. Catherine is a natural story-teller.

Here is the type of encouragement you’ll find in Rainbows For Rainy Days:

Excerpt From Devotional 24

Have you ever felt invisible? Do you imagine that if you disappeared from the face of the earth no one would notice? Sometimes you look at others and you wish you could be like them; they ooze popularity. Anybody who is anybody knows them. Conversely, no one ever seems to remember your name!

All of us can feel insignificant at times. Yes, believe it or not, even those who seem to have it all together…

What is overwhelmingly more important, however, is that God knows your name. You do not need to struggle or push yourself forward to gain recognition in Heaven. You are already known to the God who created you, and also to the One who gave His life for you on Calvary…

Rainbows For Rainy Days is the type of book that you’ll want to keep on your nightstand and read over and over. It’s also the type of book you’ll want to share with family and friends!
