Stealing The Preacher – Book Review

I’m sure you’ve heard the expression “be careful what you wish for”. Like most of us, you probably take it with a grain of salt.

On the day that Joanna Robbins met Crocket Archer, I’m sure she wished she had more carefully heeded that advice!

You see, when Joanna’s father asked what she wanted for her 21st birthday, she said she wanted a preacher. Who would have expected her father to grant her wish?

Certainly not the men in his employ.

Certainly not Joanna!

How could she have known that Silas Robbins – the well-respected, law-abiding owner of the Lazy R Ranch – would resort to his former, outlaw ways to make her birthday so special?

She couldn’t!

And yet – standing lassoed before her like a common rustler – was her birthday present.

“Dad-burn it, girl. You said you wanted a preacher, so that’s what I brung ya.”

“You stole him?” She bit back a moan. “Daddy, how could you?”

“I didn’t steal him,” he shouted at her back as she rushed to the preacher’s side and began loosening the knot. “I just encouraged him to pay you a visit for your birthday. That’s all.”

If you’re looking for a fun book to add to your summer reading list – don’t miss Stealing The Preacher by Karen Witemeyer!

Stealing The Preacher tells the delightful story of a young girl with a heart for God – her community – and her father. When her mother dies, Joanna Robbins promises her mother that she will carry on her mission to try to save her father’s soul. But – when the burden proves to be overwhelming – Joanna prays for a pastor who can help with her mission and breathe new life back into their abandoned church.

Is Crocket Archer – the man Silas kidnaps – the answer to those prayers? Or will Crockett’s presence end up tearing Joanna’s world apart?

Stealing The Preacher is western romance at its finest. The book is funny – the plot is engaging – the characters relatable. I liked the grit of the preacher, the strength of the heroine, and the devotion of the father. The story carries a strong gospel message throughout.

Once I started reading Stealing The Preacher, I could not put it down!

Karen Witemeyer hit a home run with this book. I look forward to reading more of her novels in the future.

Already I’m smiling on the subject matter just from your excellent review; and this is the second contest I’ve entered from your blog. The last Western style book I’ve read was fifty years ago in a secular magazine called “Field and Stream.”
