Dark Road Home – Book Review
Sometimes, during the course of your reading, you come across a story that is so large, one book truly can’t contain it all. That is how I felt as I was reading Dark Road Home by Elizabeth Ludwig.
Dark Road Home is the second book in the Edge Of Freedom trilogy – a complex story about a group of Irish immigrants who discover that life in America in the late 1800s isn’t everything they hoped it would be – and that moving to a new country doesn’t mean leaving your past behind.
Dark Road Home tells the story of Ana Kavanagh and Eoghan Hamilton – two immigrants who meet through a chance encounter at a local church. Ana is both repelled yet drawn to Eoghan as she senses something both familiar and mysterious about him – two things that make him difficult to put out of her mind.
What Ana and Eoghan do not know is that both of them are struggling to overcome bitterness, betrayal and other issues relating to their past – and that both of them are in mortal danger as elements from their native land reach out to destroy them for reasons they cannot foresee.
If you are new to the Edge Of Freedom series, I highly recommend that you start this series at the beginning with No Safe Harbor – Book 1 in the series. I did not have that luxury, and it took me quite some time to figure out who the cast of characters was – what was going on – and how everyone in Dark Road Home connected to one another.
If you are reading Dark Road Home with No Safe Harbor under your belt, you will enjoy immersing yourself in the continuing saga in this sequel.
Either way, once you read Dark Road Home, you will look forward to discovering where the story leads when Tide And Tempest, Book 3 in the series, releases in 2014!
Dark Road Home is a great story for lovers of historical fiction. The book is well researched, with a great story-line and a great cast of supporting characters!
I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.
