Best Non-Fiction Books of 2013
Today I’m sharing some of the best Non-Fiction Books I read this year that were released in 2013.
- How many of these books have you read – or are you planning to read?
- What are some of the best Non-Fiction books you’ve read this year?
- What are some of your favorite Non-Fiction books of all times?
Pukka’s Promise by Ted Kerasote
Pukka’s Promise is a book that belongs on every dog lover’s and every pet lover’s bookshelf. Written by the award-winning author Ted Kerasote, the book masterfully weaves together three stories – the story of his last day with Merle – the search for his new companion, Pukka – and his research into all aspects of canine longevity.
Life After Art by Matt Appling
If you were a teacher, what lessons would you want your students to take with them after they left your classroom – and how could you use art, the subject you teach, to instill those life lessons within them?
This question lies at the heart of Life After Art – an amazing book in which Matt Appling challenges us to look at our lives, to create with intentionality, and to derive inspiration from some of the greatest creative minds of our generation.
Life After Art is a life-changing book that deserves a home on every person’s bookshelf.
There is nothing more inspiring that the right devotional to start and end your day with – and, among all of the wonderful devotionals that I’ve read in 2013, there is none that is more inspiring than Limitless by Nick Vujicic!
Limitless is a book filled with hope – delivered by a man whose life is living testament to overcoming obstacles. When Nick says that “with God, all things are possible” – and you look at the things he has achieved – it’s hard not to believe his message.
Limitless is one of the most empowering books I’ve read in 2013!
One Light Still Shines by Marie Monville
When tragedy strikes – the kind that makes the evening news – the kind that echoes around the world – do you ever wonder how the families of those responsible for the devastation are impacted?
One Light Still Shines is the memoir of Marie Monville, the woman who was once married to the man who walked into an Amish schoolhouse and shot ten young schoolgirls before ending his own life.
What happened in the schoolhouse that day is brutal – savage – senseless. But Marie’s memoir isn’t really about any of that.
One Light Still Shines is about what happens after the tragedy. It’s a story of grace – mercy – forgiveness – reconciliation – healing. It’s one of the most amazing stories I have ever read. It was on my must read list for 2013 and it did not disappoint.
Second Firsts – Live, Laugh and Love Again by Christina Rasmussen
When you experience a life-shattering loss, your old life disappears in an instance. Everything you knew – everything that once defined you – is gone. Everything that follows is new. You need to re-create your life.
In Second Firsts, Christina Rasmussen shares a 5-step process to help move you past your grief and to help you focus on re-inventing a better life and future for yourself.
If you or someone you know is struggling with unresolved grief, I highly recommend this book!
Beautiful Battlefields by Bo Stern
Are you currently grappling with a situation so heart-wrenching, you wonder how you will survive it?
Bo Stern knows what it is to battle giants and to have your faith stretched to its limits. She and her husband are currently battling his ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) – a condition for which there is no cure.
In Beautiful Battlefields, Bo uses her experiences to teach us how to draw strength from our trials and to walk away from our battles unscathed from scars such as bitterness.
This is a beautifully written book that all of us could benefit from at some point in our lives.

“One Light Still Shines” looks really good. Thank you for sharing!
Life After Art sounds interesting!
What an incredible list. Last year I was working on a strength challenge where I read a book a month about becoming stronger. Almost every book on this list applies. I am adding several to my TBR list.
