Closet Words – Book Review

Prayer – conversation with God – is essential to a healthy spiritual life. Conversing with God means not only sharing what’s on our minds, but listening to His response. How many of us hear what God says to us on a regular basis?

In her beautiful book, Closet Words, Kim Hilton shows us how to do just that!

Closet Words is a special book that is written in three parts. The first part of Kim’s book contains a collection of entries from Kim’s prayer journal revealing some of the answers she has received from God to her prayers. The second part of the book contains a few of the prayers she has written.

Kim writes:

Closet Words is a collection of words from God. What began as an earnest journey to seek God in prayer became a journey of God answering and speaking to me. Through a simple pen, God has spoken to me many times…

Now, as a discerning Christian, one should ask:

How does one know that it is God’s voice we are really hearing in answer to our prayers and not our own vain imaginings?

One command that Scripture gives us is to “test the spirits” and to see if what is being said conforms to God’s Word (Scripture). As I read through the first two sections of the book – both the answers and the prayers – I found no conflicts with Scripture and felt the book truly ministered to my spirit.

The final portion of Closet Words contains a Reflections and Study Guide that can be used for personal meditation or for group study. There are Scripture references and questions that correlate with each prayer and journal entry in the book, and a log to record how much time you spend in prayer each day and week. Don’t rush the process – let the study of each chapter take as long as it needs.

Kim says that:

After completing the Reflections and Study Guide, it is my prayer that you find within yourself a deeper walk with God. May you have a true and active prayer life…and may you have your own, personal, closet journey.

I really loved Closet Words and believe that it can help you deepen your prayer life and your relationship with God in the New Year! As a result, I’d like to offer you the opportunity to win a copy for your personal use!

I would love to win because I think everyone struggles with their religious beliefs. Books about their struggles and books about suggestions on how to find you way are always appreciated.

I live in Minnesota, in the US.

What an exciting book to be giving away! I think the thing that interests me the most is the section where she details the specific answers she receives to prayers—-sometimes it is easy to overlook that the answers really do come–maybe not in the ways that “we” expect or want but they do come. I would love to read this book! beth.chiles@gmail.com
