I like to see Christmas lights. Over the years we got to like the ones that played Christmas carols. They add to the whole atmosphere. Christmas decorations lift one’s spirit so I am happy that I never gave up on decorating despite certain unhappy experiences over the years. Thanks for hosting and enjoy the season.

Thanks for hosting! We use white lights and used more elegant blue & silver decorations for the tree. But, while the kids were growing up, we used colored lights and fun decorations.

Hahaha – or all of the above! I have two trees – one in the living room and one in the family room (a few small ones here and there also). The one in the living room is all white lights with gold, silver, clear glass/crystal ornaments. The one in the family room is more natural, decorated with real acorns, pinecones and pomegranates, along with fake fruits and berries, and birds! I love Christmas trees and Santa Clauses and nutcrackers! In other words, I just love decorating for Christmas!
Thank you so much for hosting this wonderful party! I always get so much inspiration and just want to cook and craft to my heart’s delight! Have a wonderful, memorable and productive weekend!

I’m rather a gold and burgandy vintage trim tree girl and have spent years collecting gorgeous ornaments for the trees in the sales. This year, I wasn’t allowed near the tree by my three girls (12, 13 & 15) they organised a tree trimming party with a few friends and decorated the tree. It doesn’t look half bad and only took a fraction of the time.

I like my Christmas tree to be colorful. I like ornaments that don’t look like plastic. My favorite ones are painted wooden ones like in Germany, but I imagine the Chinese are making them now. 🙂 I also like to hang a few things from the kids (especially when they are young and have made something at school). My lights are small, colorful lights. We can’t get a real Christmas tree in South Africa. To have that evergreen fir tree look, we have to buy a fake one. God bless!

My favorite ornaments each year are the ones my kids have made from previous years. They are growing so quickly and the handcrafted ornaments, full of glitters, handprints, photos, and pictures are my mini walk down memory lane each year. Have a fantastic weekend!

hope you can visit my Feature and Follow Friday

  9. I do white lights (tree is prelit), but the kids wish they were colored.

I love the look of tiny white lights – I think they are so elegant (that’s how I like to do mine) – but I can see why children would prefer a more colorful tree!

As we journey towards Simplicity this year, we may not even do the tree. We don’t own one anymore and can’t afford one anyway. I do love the lights tho. When I was a small I was in charge of the tree which was assembled as soon as Santa came at the end of the Macy’s parade each year. After it was done, I’d sit in the dark without my glasses and enjoy the glowing fuzziness of it all.

For many years, our extended family did ornament exchange. We have so many now we could easily trim 15 trees. We will definately string a few lights around at least. And, I’m so excited to have a very special gift for my spouse this year: I had new wedding rings designed and they will be here for Christmas!

Andrea – what a beautiful Christmas present! I hope you will share the photos after the holidays so we can all partake in your very special gift!

I know what you mean about not being able to afford a tree. I love Christmas trees and have tons of decorations from when we first married but due to health and budget constraints, haven’t had a tree up in years. My husband always surprises me by decorating with some of my favorite pieces – like a special pre-lit Christmas bear wreath – that makes our house feel merry. So, even if you don’t do the tree – perhaps you can find a few favorite pieces from your collection to convey the Christmas spirit without the extra expense or energy!

  11. You know…I feel my taste changes every year…this year I feel like I’m into the “Pottery Barn” type tree but I can’t afford to go purchase all new décor for my tree…blah! lol But I still love our tree…bright lights, colorful ornaments. I will be adding hints of burlap bows and some new rustic and sparkly handmade ornaments though:)

Your tree sounds lovely Marisa! Be sure to hit up Pottery Barn the day after Christmas – maybe you can add a few of your faves from their collection for next year’s tree! 🙂

  12. mj says:

we did an artificial white tree this year…the lights are in color and we decorated in pink and gold…no ornaments we decorated with those around the house like they are knick knacks….and instead of garland we used pink ribbon and gold beads…this is the first year we have actually really liked our tree in a long time…I will have to do a tour post I guess…Merry Christmas!

  13. I am a white light lover with simple brown paper packages but my husband want colored lights and brassy wrapping paper. The last couple of years I go with the colored lights and paper. I think he’s like a big kid truth be known. We also do a live tree. He’s also hinted about getting a fake one but I don’t think I’m budging on that one.

Thanks for hosting this friendly hop party.
    Merry Christmas!

We have always been live tree lovers but after cleaning up the mess our last tree made – I think I’d be a convert if I could afford one of the beautiful ones that look real!

Perhaps you can alternate the lights and decorations each year. My husband was also a big colored lights person too when we met – but I convinced him we needed to start our own collection and traditions when we met (and we moved into the white lights/elegant arena with a few vintage touches throughout our home!)

Sorry I’m so late. Loved your Christmas Music too! Have a great weekend.

  15. I love clear Christmas lights on the Christmas tree and all over the house! Mix the lights with garland and red and gold dried flowers and it gives the entire house a beautiful classic holiday look!
