Wishing On Buttercups – Book Review
Some of us are so scarred from our pasts, we carry hidden wounds deep inside of us. Others are deeply wounded both inside and out. These people mask their internal pain but find their external scars harder to hide.
And then there are those like Beth Roberts – also known as Elizabeth Corwin in certain circles – who must deal with the impact of both emotional and physical wounding in their lives.
Beth is a talented young illustrator who is leading somewhat of a double life. Beth is torn between trying to escape from the fleeting memories of a painful past while simultaneously trying to make sense of it all. As a result, she has trouble trusting those around her.
Beth is a woman with secrets – secrets she is intent on keeping hidden.
Jeffrey Tucker is a young man who has left his family behind to follow his dreams. He wants nothing more than to become a writer – and he’s determined to make it on his own.
He’s curious… inquisitive… the kind of guy who can’t help but notice what’s happening in the lives of those around him… especially those who catch his eye.
Although he has no intentions of being drawn into the affairs of another person, Jeffrey cannot help but be intrigued by – and attracted to – Beth.
As fate would have it, however, Beth wants nothing to do with Jeffrey because – unbeknownst to him – Jeffrey threatens the facade she has worked so hard to create and maintain.
What happens when circumstances draw Beth and Jeffrey together and they find their lives increasingly intertwined? Will threatening strangers and people from their pasts draw them together – or pull them apart?
Wishing On Buttercups by Miralee Ferrell is the second book in the Love Blossoms In Oregon series – and it’s a book that you won’t want to miss!
You can delve right into the story if you like – but if you love Historical Fiction and Westerns are your thing, I recommend you start with Blowing On Dandelions – the first book in the series. That way, you’ll feel like you already know several of the characters when you settle down to read this book!
Miralee is a talented story-teller whose prose draws you into Wishing on Buttercups right from the start. In places, I found myself so involved with the characters, I felt like cheering for the good guys – and booing the bad guys – just as if I were in the theater, watching the story on the big screen!
I loved Wishing On Buttercups and rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Miralee Ferrell is a woman of many accomplishments. She’s an award-winning author of Western fiction; a speaker; an accredited counselor; and a ACFW chapter president!
Miralee has published eight books since she began writing in 2005 and has another five books under contract. She has written women’s contemporary fiction and historical fiction.

You have written so many wonderful books over the years. If you were recommending one of your books to a new reader – which one would you choose, and why?
Hi Joy, thank you so much for allowing me time and space on your blog and agreeing to take part in my tour. I love your review, and I’m thrilled you enjoyed my book!
You may have stumped me with your question, LOL! My books are so different….the first two are contemporary and deal with real life issues–Marriage problems, children, and more….four are more true Westerns with all the action & adventure you’d expect, but still with life lessons and strong women overcoming obstacles, then we have this new series that is a blend of Western and contemporary, in that it tackles tough issues that are pertinent today, and could minister to the lives of readers, but still has a historical setting and romance. If I had to choose one from each set, I’d say The Other Daughter for the contemporary, Love Finds You in Sundance, WY, for the action/Western/romance, and Blowing on Dandelions from this current series. Wow! That was hard! And I’m sorry I didn’t narrow it down to just one.

Hi Melanie, you’ve come up with some good questions! I’m curious….do you gals come back and read the answers?
I discovered something totally unexpected while researching for LFY in Bridal Veil, OR… my great grandfather lived there during the same time period (within one year I believe) of when my story took place. Not only did he live there, he worked for the same logging company that is featured in the book, that owned and built the town. He kept a journal of sorts, and I was able to put him into the story line as a secondary character who played a part in the book. All of that was fiction, of course, but I used his real name, Arthur Gibbs, gave him a dog that he actually had,& gave him an experience in the book that actually happened in real life, and the same job. Such fun!
Fascinating, just fascinating! I most definitely come back and read your answers to my questions . I have come back to every blog site, with great interest, to see how you answered my questions. I have really enjoyed finding out more about you, Miss Miralee. Thank you so much!

Joy, I love cats too, although I typically have a 7 lb, long-haired Chihuahua named Lacey curled up on my lap whether I’m reading or writing or watching TV. Animals bring so much joy and love to our lives. Hi Danie, thanks so much for making the rounds with me!! I take a little down time and watch TV (I’m currently hooked on Downton Abbey), or I read. I used to do some scrapbooking but I don’t have time to drag it all out and give it the concentration it requires. I also used to oil paint scenery, but again, not enough time. I’m afraid writing and everything I must do (like blog tours!) related to writing, consumes much of my ‘fun’ time.

Do you write daily?
Hi Deborah, so good to see you here! Nope. I don’t write every day, as too often life gets in the way. Or I take a break for a couple of wks after finishing a book (like right now)…or I get tons done one day on my book and the next couple of days I dedicate to publicity or editing. It varies, depending on where I am in the process.
Hi Miralee, I have also enjoyed following your blog tour and asking you questions to get to virtually know you better. You are very talented and creative. Is there another hobby or interest that you would like to try if you had the time?
Hi Maryann! Before I started writing I enjoyed scrapbooking and oil painting scenery, but both have gone by the wayside now as I try to keep up with all the various duties required along with my writing. I would actually enjoy painting again and may go back to it one day. Thanks!!

What time of day do you do your best writing? Are you a morning person?
Hi Tammy,
I’m definitely NOT a morning person, LOL! It’s 10:30 a.m. now and I’m still in my pj’s and bathrobe. I try to catch up on email and publicity requirements in the morning, then typically run errands and do housework, then start my ‘real’ writing in the mid to late afternoon. If my hubby is engrossed in TV or gone, I often write in the evenings, as well. I’ve found that I often get a second wind and become most creative in the evening.
What’s your favorite part about writing?

Hi bn100, Thanks for your question. I love starting a new book and I love ending one, but I also really enjoy the editing process where I tighten, trim, tweak and strengthen the book.

Hi Dawn, as far as writing inspiration, the writer who impacted my current writing the most is Zane Grey. I started reading his books as a teen and continued through my adult life. I own all of his westerns and boys adventure books, and love his descriptions as well as the actions scenes and depiction of western life. Hi Tanya, greetings to a fellow writer!! So glad you stopped by. When I’m too tired to write, I go to bed. Truly. I didn’t use to…I’d try to push through, hoping to get a second wind, then often pay for it the next day. I found that getting my rest paid dividends in teh long run on being creative. In fact, more than once I’ve gone to bed totally blocked, and in the morning (or the middle of the night) woke with the answer. Sometimes allowing your mind to simmer while you sleep helps a lot. Another couple of things I do… take a brisk walk. It truly helps, and I’ve had more than one breakthrough while walking. The last thing (of several I could name) is jump ahead and write a different scene that you know will happen at some point, and skip what’s blocking you. That can open the flood gates like nothing else. Thanks again!
