Dancing With Fireflies – Book Review

If you are a woman who is about to embark on your first date with someone – always trust your gut. That’s the lesson that countless women – including Jade McKinley – have learned from personal experience.

Jade is a young woman who has left home and moved to the big city to fulfill her dreams. But life in her hometown of Chapel Springs, Indiana did not prepare her for life – or the men – in Chicago. When a date goes wrong – very wrong – life as she knows it is over. Soon, Jade finds herself doing the unthinkable – returning home, broke and alone, and desperate to hide the secret that is growing inside of her.

She’s also looking  for a practical solution to her problems.

When she arrives, she rekindles her friendship with Daniel Dawson – an honorary family member who has always been like a big brother to her. Daniel is now the mayor of Chapel Springs, and his feelings for Jade run deeper than she knows. As the story develops, so do her feelings for Daniel – but there is a lot of baggage from her past and a lot of present-day problems that make it difficult for Jade to trust anyone and to develop a healthy relationship.

I enjoyed how the story transpires – both the highs and the lows – and felt it was very true-to-life.

Dancing With Fireflies by Denise Hunter is a remarkable book that revolves around some difficult themes, but addresses them with sensitivity and ease. The book explores complex relationships and human frailties that exist and come to light under difficult circumstances.

The plot of Dancing With Fireflies is filled with twists that will satisfy and characters you’ll love. God is ever-present but never over-bearing in this book.

Dancing With Fireflies is a great book to read alone – but it’s an even better book to discuss with a group! The Reading Group Guide should help generate some lively discussions if you go this route!

Dancing With Fireflies is the second book in the Chapel Springs Romance series. You can also read my review of her first book in the series, Barefoot Summer.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
