WOYWW – World Book Night 2014

World Book Night 2

Happy What’s On Your Work Desk Wednesday, dear friends! Did you miss me last week? I wanted to join you, but I was busy preparing for and participating in an event called World Book Night. All across the country, volunteers shared their love of reading by handing out free books to light and non-readers in their communities.

World Book Night - 1

Each volunteer received 20 books of their choosing to distribute – and a total of half a million books were distributed in the United States alone!

This was the first year I participated in the event, and I snapped a few photos of my desk last week so you could participate vicariously with me!

I picked up my box of books from a local bookstore a week before the event, and Magellan eagerly awaited his opportunity to inspect each and every book inside the box to make sure it met with his approval.

He also watched me pack for the event, although he wasn’t much of a help – he decided to plop right in the middle of my desk and look adorable, hoping that would convince me to stay and play with him instead!

I distributed my books in a local park, sharing the event and books with those who expressed an interest in receiving one. I met some wonderful people in the process and hope I have the opportunity to participate again in the future!

I waited a year to participate in the event and it is well worth it!

I believe there are events in the US, the UK and Ireland.

Such an awesome way to share one’s love of reading and promote literacy! 🙂

What a great idea for encouraging a love of reading! I am sure you enjoyed taking part in such a fantastic venture.

As for Magellan, kitties do love to “help” in their own way, don’t they! And they just love to creep into the photos too. He is adorable.

    Happy WOYWW,
