The Do’s And Don’ts – Book Review

There is nothing more pleasurable than being around a well-mannered child – and nothing as fearsome as living with a manner monster!

Make sure your children aren’t turning into manner monsters while you’re busy tending to other things. Make learning basic manners fun with The Do’s And Don’ts by Hayley Rose!

The Do's and Dont's

The Do’s And Don’ts is a whimsical lesson book aimed at teaching young readers the difference between good etiquette and bad behavior.

In this book, children experience Zack and Chloe’s transformation from manner monsters into well-behaved children through typical scenarios that young children not only encounter but can relate to.

For example, Zack becomes a Manner Monster when he loses a game, kicking and pouting like a poor sport. In contract, good behavior is then modeled depicting Zack congratulating the winning team.

Unlike other etiquette books for children that tell a story or just communicate positive behavior, The Do’s and Don’ts compares and contrasts between good and bad behavior.

One of the things I really like about The Do’s And Don’ts is that it provides parents with the opportunity to engage in dialogue with their children about what good and bad behavior looks like, using Mark Sean Wilson’s colorful pictures as illustrative examples.

Children will find the concept and imagery of a manners monster easy to relate to and remember. The Do’s And Don’ts provides parents with a great way to teach your children important lessons about how to treat others in a relaxed and positive setting!

  1. I love the concept and idea of this book. I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of it. Do you know of any other good books on etiquette?

I saw your site on a linked up party from Big Hair and Books… I recommended a story called Millions of Cats. From what I can tell from your site, I think you might love it.

Is this book, or any of the author;s other books traditionally published or are they all self-published. I couldn’t find that anywhere. This is my first time at your wonderful site and just do not yet know my way around. Nice review. I would love to see the illustration of the boy being a poor sport. I hope it has a little humor in it so kids will remember. Nice review. Hopped over from the Kid Lit Blog Hop.

      Hi Sue,

I’m delighted to meet you! This book was published through Inkwell Productions and it appears by visiting the website that they help authors to self-publish. I am not familiar with her other books – perhaps you could find that info on Amazon. I’m glad you enjoyed the review! Hope you’ll check out some of my other reviews (one of my goals is to categorize my many types of book reviews in the not-too-distant future!)

I really like the idea of presenting both the wrong and the right ways. This could even be extended to role playing! Thanks so much for sharing this at Booknificent Thursday on!

Sounds like a great story! There is nothing more rewarding than hearing your children use there manners when they think you’re not listening.
