Photos Of The Week – Magellan – Seeing Double

Quote Of The Week
If a homeless cat could talk,
It would probably say,
“Give me shelter, food, companionship and love,
And I will be yours for life!”

Cats And Water

Many of us were raised with the notion that cats do not enjoy water
But did you know that many breeds, big and small,
Actually enjoy playing and frolicking in water?

Tigers and Jaguars are two wild breeds that love to swim.
Many domestic breeds also enjoy playing in the water!

Popular cat breeds who are known for their love of water include the
Turkish Van, Turkish Angora, Savannah, American Bobtail,
Bengal, Japanese Bobtail, Manx, Abyssinian, Norwegian Forest Cat,
And, of course, the beloved Maine Coon Cat!

Our Maine Coons are fascinated by water!
They love to play with water –
Dip their paws in water to wash –
Scoop and flick water for sport –
Drink from faucets and running water –
Drop and scoop toys in and out of water –
Drink water out of cups and glasses –
Bat ice cubes across the kitchen floor –
And lay in wet tubs and sinks and soak up water like a sponge!

So how about your pets?
Do they love to play with water or have an aversion to it?

Note: Check out the fun videos below –
But adjust your speakers as both have music playing in the background!

As long as it is contained, my girls don’t mind water. In fact, they adore their water fountain. I noticed they began to drink much once they had fresh filtered running water.

Now…bath time….that’s a whole different story. Storm will fuss and cry (you would think we were tormenting the poor girl) while Cougar will just whine and give you a dirty look. Ah well, if they want to go outside and roll in the dirt, that’s the price they pay.

  10. HAHA What a cute capture!

Great picture of Magellan. 🙂 Two of our cats (Moosey and Zoe) love playing with water, too!

Bleagh! No water for me! Well, I do drink some – but don’t get me near a sink or anything else that even has the potential for containing a body of water larger than me!

  17. Aww! So sweet! I share some mirror images at Zee and Zoey’s today for Wordless Wednesday… as far as water… I have a Bengal and Maine Coons… both breeds of which can be curious about water. Which, of course, only holds true on their terms. NOT if you try to give them a bath!

  18. Bailey says:

It’s amazing what we learn about animals that challenges what we thought we knew.

  19. I keep learning more and more about cats. Love it, thanks

We are going to be swimming in tomatoes this year! Forty-eight plants. Oy! :O)

  22. Very cute photo! My kitties are not real fans of playing in the water. Sometimes they will cautiously peek into the shower when I’m in there, but that is the closest they get.

  23. WolfSong says:

Beautiful shot! Love the mirror image. 🙂

Every summer I add ice cubes to water dishes.
The cats wait for them to melt before drinking. I guess the ice looks odd to them.
The dog, however, thinks ice is a grand toy to throw around and chase.
I’ll probably throw a few in the trough for the horses to see what they think, but I think they’ll like apples as an addition better. 😉

It’s that mirror…of course who would not want to see double of that kitty! I certainly would.

  25. Patti says:

    Hi,
We had an orange tiger that always tried to get into the tub when we were bathing but once in he did not like it. LOL

Our current cat does not really like the water but she is a finicky girl and wants her water bowl in a different room than her food. How funny. Cats are really something and makes us laugh.

Nice post. Maine coons are cool and so pretty. We had a male from a shelter a long time ago an a vet thought he must be part Maine coon.
