The Love Dare For Parents – Review & Giveaway

The Love Dare For Parents

The Love Dare For Parents – Book Review

Today I am excited to share a fabulous new parenting book and devotional with you.

It is probably the best parenting book I have read this year.

The book is called The Love Dare For Parents and it’s written by Stephen and Alex Kendrick (with Lawrence Kimbrough) – the authors of the international best-selling marriage book The Love Dare.

The Love Dare For Parents takes you on a 40-day journey of “dares” that challenges you, as parents, to better understand, practice, and communicate Christ-like love to your children.

The book is built around the biblical passage of Malachi 4:6, and is designed to help “turn the hearts of parents to their children and turn the hearts of children to their parents” so that moms and dads can more fully enjoy and delight in their children while maximizing the positive impact they have on their lives in the long term.

Each easy-to-read devotional in this book is centered around a different aspect of love. The devotions open with a passage from Scripture, and are followed by an inspiring, illuminating discussion about the day’s topic. You are then provided with your daily challenge, along with space to journal about your experience once you have completed the challenge. Guided questions are provided to help you process your experience.

Here are a few things I particularly like about The Love Dare For Parents:

  • In the Preface, the authors provide useful tips to prepare you for your 40 day challenge. The tips are extremely practical and address common concerns that many parents may have about participating in this event.
  • The authors include several useful Appendix Articles to supplement the material in this book. They include topics like how to maximize family time – how to pray for your children – and questions to ask your child.

The authors did a fabulous job in communicating what love is really all about.

I highly recommend The Love Dare For Parents and encourage you to visit their website for more information and resources (including free evaluations and sample devotions from the book)!

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

You are so right Amber – going against the grain is a challenge we must all face as we continue to transform our minds!

    • This is my biggest challenge too! Spiritual warfare!

  9. Great post! I have The Love Dare for Couples. I will definitely pick up this book. Thanks for sharing! Stopping in from #SITSSharefest!

  10. I am such a big fan of these guys – can’t wait for their next movie. In the meantime, I’d love to get the Love Dare for Children to use with my two girls.

  11. I loved the Love Dare, this sounds like it would be great to do this with my children. The biggest challenge I face with my kids is making them each feel individually loved. I am challenged with my middle girls wanting exactly the same things as everyone else… always. She feels like out or unloved very easily. I find I have less patience with her sometimes because of it. Thanks for sharing about this book! Stopping over for SITS.

Kimberly, you bring up such a great point – how important it is to not only recognize each child’s uniqueness – but to make each child feel loved and recognized and individuals.

It sounds like you are a wonderfully sensitive mom to be so aware of each of your child’s special needs.

Best of luck to you in the giveaway and thanks for sharing your feedback on The Love Dare as well – this book is now on my wish list to read! 🙂

  12. BTW, I am in the US.

  13. My biggest challenge is dealing with a 14 year old living in a fallen world who opposes the way we are bringing her up! I realize I’m singing the song of many Christian mom’s out there, but it’s so hard to remain calm and express my objections of this world in love without sounding like the “mean mom!” Thanks for sharing and the opportunity!

  14. Janet says:

My biggest challenge is balancing the needs of my 3 children, knowing which battles to fight and how to show love to each child in a meaningful way. Janet UK

  15. My biggest struggle as a parent is over-scheduling our day and then feeling bummed when we don’t get everything accomplished. I need to learn how to gracefully and gratefully say NO to others’ requests and make our family a priority. 😉

  16. Merry says:

Right now its probably learning to let go a little more and encouraging them to be more independent and to believe in themselves

  17. Rachel Schichtl says:

It’s hard for us to keep our young girls modest and away from the addictive nature of electronics when all of their “friends” and peers are not behaving the same way we expect from our girls.

  18. Maria-Tai Willeford says:

My biggest challenge as a parent is that of needing patience. My kids are ages 6 and 8, and as they fight with one another, or even get irritated with me, I am quick to react and am not the loving Christian mom I should be while doing so.
