Book Nook 200

Welcome to the Book Nook At Create With Joy!

Welcome to the Book Nook at Create With Joy – a place where book lovers gather to share their collective love of books, reading, and all things literary!

Our goal is to establish a family-friendly community where bibliophiles from all backgrounds – readers, bloggers, reviewers, writers, authors, teachers, librarians, parents, homeschoolers, publicists and publishers – can share what’s new in the world of books, blogging, and publishing!

At each gathering, we’ll share book-related news and fill you in on what’s happening around the blogosphere. We’ll also provide a link where you can share your book-related and literacy-related posts as well!

Please help the Book Nook grow by adding our beautiful blog button and links to your blog/posts and spreading the word on your social media sites so that others can join the fun!

A Word From Our Hostess

The Man Who Doesnt Read Quote

First, I’d like to welcome you all of you to our 2nd gathering of The Book Nook at Create With Joy, and thank all of you who were on hand at our launch and who helped make the event SUCH a success! I am thrilled beyond measure by the warm reception this event has received by all who have heard about it so far, and am excited by the potential for our community’s growth!

I am also excited by the quality and diversity of content you shared! For those of you who stopped by early during our first event – and for those of you who are new to The Book Nook – I encourage you to visit The Book Nook Launch so you don’t miss out on a single exciting post!

Thanks to all of you who have added The Book Nook Badge on your blogs – or who have requested the code to do so! The HTML for the blog badge is now available on the sidebar for your convenience (or you can just right click on the image and upload it to your site – whichever you prefer). I appreciate all of you who have shared our party in your posts, on social media, and on your linky party lists, and hope you will continue to do so!

The Book Nook is currently running on a bi-weekly Friday schedule on Fridays to allow everyone ample time to share their posts and visit everyone. The current party will ALWAYS be open until a new one launches, so you will always have a place to share your latest news!

That means the NEXT Book Nook will post on Friday, February 13, 2015.

Have a wonderful time at this week’s party – be sure to leave a comment – and have fun making some wonderful new bookish friends!

A Very Special Giveaway

Chicken Soup For The Soul - The Power Of Forgiveness

One of the most healing things we can do in life is learn how to let go and forgive others. It’s also one of the most difficult things to master.

That’s why I’m so pleased to offer three of my US/Canadian readers the chance to win a copy of Chicken Soup For The Soul – The Power Of Forgiveness. Stop by to Enter Our Giveaway by February 13th for your chance to win!

What Do Kids Want In Books?

What Kids Want In Books

If you are a parent, teacher, librarian or children’s book author, you know that one of the keys to getting children to read more is to sharing books that engage them – but knowing what young readers want may have been a bit of a guessing game up until now!

At the last Book Nook, Michelle from A New Horizon Of Reviews shared a sneak preview of a new national survey conducted by Scholastic of children ages 6-17 entitled ““What Kids Want In Books”. The pictorial is a fascinating look into the minds of our youth – I highly recommend that you stop by Michelle’s blog for a peek!

I Broke My Trunk

For a delightful children’s book that’s in keeping with the Scholastic criteria, check out Lady D’s review of I Broke My Trunk by Mo Willems!

Book Blogger Organization Challenge

Book Blogger Organization Challenge

If you are a book blogger who has been reviewing books for any length of time, you know how easy it can be for things to start getting out of hand. The e-mails start pouring in… the TBR stack starts growing higher and higher… the list of things to keep manage on your blog starts to grow longer and longer… where does it end?

If you want to start taking control of your reading and book blogging life once more, then the Book Blogger Organization Challenge – hosted by Brittany at The Book Addict’s Guide – is the perfect place to start!

What I like about the Book Blogger Organization Challenge is that it is a 6-month challenge (Jan 1 thru June 30) that offers guidelines to help you get back on track – but ultimately, lets you decide what you need to work on and the pace you set for yourself!

I am planning to Join The Book Blogger Organization Challenge. One of my big goals for my blog is to add subcategories to the Books category on my Navbar so that readers can better find what they are looking for! Other goals include updating Goodreads shelves, Pinterest boards and doing some much needed spring cleaning around the house!

Are you participating in this challenge? If so, what are your goals are?

I Love/Hate Valentine’s Day Reading Challenge

Love Hate Valentines Reading Challenge

Are you looking for a fun reading challenge for the month of February? Julie Cornwell has created a delightful challenge that has something for everyone in the I Love/Hate Valentine’s Day Reading Challenge!

I am a hopeless romantic. I will be celebrating my 17th wedding anniversary this Valentine’s Day. Needless to say, I love Valentine’s Day – and have a stack of fiction and non-fiction books dealing with love and romance just begging for my attention in my TBR pile.

Needless to say, this challenge is for me.

But – even if you’re not a fan of this holiday – this challenge is for you as well! Julie’s challenge gives equal time to books on both sides of the picture – so sign up for the I Love/Hate Valentine’s Day Reading Challenge (and leave a comment to let us know what side of the romantic fence your reading taste fall on!)

Here are the books I am reading for this challenge:

  • I Choose You Today – 31 Choices To Make Love Last
  • The Love Dare

If I have time to read more, I’ll update the list!

Foodies Read Challenge

Foodies Read Challenge

Do you love reading books about food and beverages – whether they be cookbooks, food biographies, memoirs, non-fiction books centered around a specific food, wine, chef or restaurant, or fictional stories in which food plays a major role?

If so, the Foodies Read Challenge is for you!

My goal is to read at the Pastry Chef Level (4 to 8 Books) and – if I meet that goal – consider moving onwards and upwards!

Here are the books I currently have earmarked for the challenge:

  • Dashing Dish – 100 Simple & Delicious Recipes For Clean Eating
  • Let Us All Eat Cake
  • Breakfast For Dinner
  • Pure Vanilla
  • Booze Cakes

Foodie February 2015

Foodie February

If your food reading includes an international element to it, may I also recommend the Foodie February 2015 Travel The World In Books Reading Challenge?

This event challenges you to read and review as many food-related books from around the world as you like. This includes cookbooks, fiction or non-fiction where food plays a major part in the book.

Thanks again for hosting this fabulous new hop! I grabbed the button from the sidebar, but the HTML in the sidebar is very unusual – not the same as the one on this post. If anyone is having trouble with the one on the post, they might need to re-do the the quotation marks and a I also noticed a space between the png and the ” that probably shouldn’t be there in both grab boxes. The Mark Twain quote is brilliant. Have a wonderful and blessed weekend!

I have joined a Goodreads group that has me read one book a month JUST FOR FUN

And on February 14th a group of us are sharing hearts and flowers (and various other giveaways) to show support for Indie Authors.
