Chat In The Comments: Share The Books You Love!

The Worth Of A Book Quote

Welcome to our 3rd gathering of The Book Nook at Create With Joy! In keeping with the calendar, I’d like to extend a warm Valentine’s Day wish to you, and invite you to participate in a discussion in the comments:

Tell us about a book that you really love in the comments!

It can be something you’ve read recently or a book you’ve read long ago and recently recalled. It can be your favorite book of all time or a recent favorite.

Perhaps you’ve discovered a new author that you’d like to read more of or you’d like to tell us about a favorite author you just can’t get enough of!

We look forward to hearing about some really great books from you! And – if there’s anything you’d like to chat about in the weeks to come – drop me an e-mail for future consideration!

The Healthy Lifestyle Books Reading Challenge

Healthy Reading Challenge

Is improving your health and well-being and/or maintaining a healthy lifestyle a priority for you this year? If so, I invite you to join hostess Joy Weese Moll in The Healthy Lifestyle Books Reading Challenge!

The challenge that Joy has set before us is to read any book that supports our healthy lifestyle. We can define “health” as broadly as we need to improve our life – physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually.

The challenge runs from January 1 through December 31, 2015 and you can sign up at any time at one of four reading levels:

Fun Run: 1 to 4 books
5K: 5-9 books
10K: 10-14 books
Marathon: 15 books or more

Using a broad definition of health and well-being, I’m joining as a marathoner (it might be the only time I get to run a marathon!) and here are the books I’ve read to date for the challenge:

Favorite Books Discussion: I’ll get things started!

I recently read The Poisonwood Bible as part of the Travel The World In Books Reading Events I shared at The Book Nook #1 and I absolutely loved this book!

I haven’t posted the review on my blog as of yet but I did post a review on GoodReads which you can read at https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1186664493,

I liked a lot of things about this book, but what really struck me is how true to life the story rang in terms of how the people and events in our life shape us, for better or worse, and offers incredible insight into humanity.

My husband is currently reading the book and we are using Tanya’s questions (at Mom’s Small Victories) to spark wonderful dialog between us about the book.

If you are a missionary – or someone who has had short/long-term missionary experience or is interested in becoming a missionary (this encompasses a number of readers of this blog) – I’d love for you to read this book and share your insights!

Now it’s your turn. Tell us about a book that you love!

I have a busy day today, but I will be back to visit.
Thank you for the kind comment on my blog.

    Blessings!

I love to cook and cookbooks inspire me to try new recipes, especially when the photos are so vibrant and you can just tell this is going to be a tasty one to try!

I also enjoy reading cookbooks – especially ones with lots of photographs!
      Do you have a favorite?
There are many wonderful cookbooks on my shelves, so it’s hard to pick just one, but I know that I love anything from Williams Sonoma – they have wonderful recipes that are beautifully photographed and every recipe we have tried from them has turned out perfectly!

One of the most important books I’ve ever read is One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp. http://anniekateshomeschoolreviews.com/2013/09/review-one-thousand-gifts-by-ann-voskamp/

I especially learned from her emphasis on being grateful and on how that changes life.

  6. Thanks for sharing the Healthy Books Lifestyle Challenge with everyone. One of my favorite books is the one that helped me most with my healthy lifestyle — The Complete Beck Diet for Life by Judith Beck.

  7. Elizabeth says:

I recently read a Young Adult book that really grabbed me. Greenglass House by Kate Milford. I had never heard of this author and the book was great in slowly developing the characters and the intentions of all the guests who are snowed in at a small inn over Christmas. I linked to my post above. http://ebogie.blogspot.com/2015/02/a-recipe-for-greenglass-house-by-kate.html

I’m here! See…I promised! I’ll try to keep up every week, depending on how busy I get. You know how it is. 🙂

I linked up above to my review this week of Rodin’s Lover by Heather Webb. It’s a historical novel about Camille Claudel, one of the most famous female sculptors of the late 19th/early 20th centuries. An excellent read!

Since you have a link up to Goodreads, I would just like to invite everyone to join my monthly book club/chat group, TuesBookTalk Read-a-Longs (https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/37584-tuesbooktalk-read-a-longs). This month, we’re reading Starvation Heights by Gregg Olsen. Next month, Life After Life by Kate Atkinson.

I also have an online reading retreat book club called Lit Collective. We have two “retreats” per year. In March, we do a themed read. Two fiction and one non-fiction title centered on a theme. Next month our theme is Venice and there’s still time to get in on it. We space the discussions out over the entire month. In August, we read the works of a specific author (usually about three titles). Here’s the link to the Lit Collective group: https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/114817-lit-collective-an-online-reading-retreat

Thanks for putting this community together! Books…and readers…rule!!!

      Hi Michelle,

So glad you made it! Your novel sounds interesting – I am not familiar with Camille Claudel but would love to know more about her!

Thanks for sharing the invitations to your GoodReads groups as well! I know there are other members in our community who also host GoodReads groups… perhaps we’ll include a link to the groups in future rotations to make it easier to join groups of interest and support one another! 🙂

I really loved Tessa Afshar’s Biblical retelling of Ruth and Boaz’s story [fictioanlized of course], but definitely a wonderfully inspiring tale. Both in the depth of character and the romance that ensues. Learning about the culture and locale is a treat and perfect for the Travel the World Challenge! Highly recommended 5*s
