Inspirational Video Of The Week – A Bullied Girl Voted “The Ugliest On The Internet” Responds To Her Tormenters

In a culture that is obsessed with physical, can you how emotionally devastating it must be to be voted “The Ugliest Girl On The Internet”?

Now imagine what it would be like if you received that designation when you were only 11 years old! (I am filled with anger and tears just thinking about this cruelty!)

That’s what happened to Lizzie Velasquez – a young woman who was born with a disease that’s so rare, only two other people in the world are known to have it!

How would you respond if happened to you?

Today’s inspirational video is powerful. I encourage you to watch it and to share it with a friend!

The story behind the video is moving. It is so sad somebody posted a photo of a sick child as an ‘ugly’ photo. :/

  11. It’s amazing how mean people are to others who are different, especially kids. Children can be really cruel to their peers, but how horrible it is that adults (more than likely) were leaving vicious comments on YouTube. You know what I think? Here’s a woman who can’t help how she looks, but despite her appearance has grown into a beautiful person. But, there are scores of beautiful girls who deface their image on purpose. It doesn’t make them less beautiful on the inside, but the thing is society openly accepts it and yet they are scared of the way Lizzie looks. It’s absolutely craziness! Somewhere along the way, kids aren’t shedding their rudeness as they grow up. They don’t know what it’s like to have empathy or good manners, but think it’s fine to bash someone while hiding behind an IP address. Lizzie is an amazing person. She truly is inspiring. Thank you, Ramona for sharing this with us today!

Thanks for your beautiful and heartfelt comment Cathy – it amazes me how cruel that people can be. I hope that by hearing this “beautiful” young woman speak, that the next time we are tempted to make an off-the-cuff remark we will remember how powerful our written and spoken words are and the potent and lasting impact they can have on others – even people we may never meet!

  12. Thanks for the party! Have a great weekend!
