Evanger’s Dried Treats – A #ChewyInfluencer Review

Have you ever followed your nose into the kitchen because you’re following the scent of some irresistible aroma – found yourself salivating at the thought of the delicacy that awaited you at the end of the trail – only to find out that what awaited you on your plate wasn’t exactly what you expected?

I’ve heard that it happens to humans all of the time and recently, it happened to me!

Evangers 2

Recently I spotted a new Chewy.com box in the house. Mom tries to hide them from me (she’s into that whole “surprise” thing) – but as you know, I’m aware of everything that happens in my house! So, I kept track of all of the goodies she unpacked as they came out of the monthly delivery box from Chewy, and noticed she left a bag of Evanger’s Nothing But Natural Wild Salmon Gently Dried Dog & Cat Treats in Wild Salmon sitting on the counter.

Mom never leaves food sitting on the counter!

Naturally, my nose started to twitch and crinkle. I couldn’t help myself. The ocean was calling to me! Mom eats salmon all of the time but does she share? She does not! So, she must have caught fresh salmon just for me!

As it turns out, Mom actually did order me this bag of Wild Salmon hoping it would satiate my appetite for fresh fish (and keep me off of her plate!) but – as it turns out – that was not to be.

Evangers 1

The Evanger’s Wild Salmon smells great. It has great flavor (I licked it and licked it and licked it some more!) But – as you can see from the photos – this wild jerkey treat is simply too tough for house cats (I mean seriously – I’m a Maine Coon who loves to gnaw on things and I have a strong Dad who likes to break things, and even when he broke it into tiny pieces – which he found challenging – it was still too hard to chew!)

So, the bottom line is – we think these grain and gluten-free treats would be a great treat to share with our favorite dog pals – we know lots of dogs who would enjoy gnawing on these – but we wouldn’t recommend it as a cat treat.

I think it’s terrible for the delicious smell of salmon to entice Magellan when it’s really a doggy dried treat. Thanks for hosting – have a great day, Joy!

I could certainly see why you would think that (I would think that too!) but my boys are piggy cats – they are ALWAYS eating and every time I turn around, their food bowl is empty (even though I am constantly filling it!) We autoship them 4 huge bags of dry food and 4 orders of canned food every few months in addition to all of the treats they are fortunate enough to review! (Thank goodness for Chewy – I can’t imagine having to lug all of that stuff into my home otherwise!)

  22. Robin says:

These sound really yummy! I’m sorry that you weren’t able to chew through these. Jerky can be really tough sometimes. It’s great that you got some lick of yummy fish, though!

  23. Star Traci says:

I am pretty sure that my dachshund Beanie will be taking Magellan’s suggestion.
    Happy Wednesday.

I could see where cats would have some difficulty with those treats. Arya has a hard enough time eating her regular cat treats, the delicate little flower. lol

Thanks for the cute post. Always nice to see Magellan’s sweet face. <3

Whoa! Those are big pieces! I’d never eat those.
