Full – Book Review

Full: Food, Jesus, And The Battle For Satisfaction – Book Review

Have you ever felt out of control when it comes to eating? Do you struggle to eat in a way that nourishes you physically, emotionally, and spiritually? Are you trying to maintain a healthy body weight without depriving yourself of the foods that you love and without excessively fixating on what you are going to eat?

If you feel are not always in control of your eating habits – if you feel at times that your eating habits are controlling you – then you will be interested in reading Full: Food, Jesus, And The Battle For Satisfaction by Asheritah Ciuciu.

Full is not just another diet book: there are no recipes or meal plans inside of this book. Instead, if you believe that your struggles with food have an emotional and an spiritual component to them, and are looking for strategic biblical guidance on how to prevail in this battle, you’ll learn how food fixation is one way that we unwittingly try to meet needs that only God and Jesus can provide – and what we can do to satisfy our longings with the Bread Of Life instead of the bread basket!

Each chapter of Full contains anecdotes from the author and other women who struggle with food issues – biblical passages that help us to form a theology on food and related topics like fasting – and questions for journaling or group discussion that truly help you to process and apply the material you are learning. You’ll also want to explore the bonus online content that is referenced at the end of each chapter.

While Full will most strongly appeal to women of faith, chapters like “Discover Your Triggers” will be of interest to anyone who reads the book.

I picked up Full because I want to lead a healthier (and let’s be honest, slimmer!) life. As I work my way through Full, however, I’m also convinced that the author wants me to lead a holier life. In a world where we are often too concerned about looking good on the outside, without any regard to whether we are transformed on the inside, that’s a rare perspective – and a welcome one.

For that reason alone (and there are many more reasons to do so) – I recommend this book!

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
