Because You’re Mine by Colleen Coble – Book Review

Because You're Mine

Because You’re Mine – Book Review

Regardless of our circumstances, we all strive to create a life that makes us happy and brings us peace. Not all of us achieve the quiet moments of contentment we long for, but that remains our dream.

In Because You’re Mine – the latest psychological thriller from Colleen Coble – protagonist Alanna Connolly thought she had achieved her dream. Unfortunately, she was mistaken.

Alanna didn’t come from much – a family of travelers and Irish gypsies whose heritage was shattered and filled with pain – but she is blessed with two things: the voice of an angel and an enduring beautiful heart. She soon discovers how much she needs that second gift – an enduring heart – when she loses the love of her life on one fateful night and her life comes apart at the seams.

How do you survive when it feels like your beating heart has been ripped out of your body? How can you move forward with your life when it feels like your in-laws and the whole world is conspiring against you?

When you are drowning, sometimes your only choice is to just keep on taking one more breath.

When Alanna’s manager throws a life line her way, things appear to be turning around for Alanna and the child she is carrying inside of her – but she soon discovers that things aren’t always what they seem. Not all ropes save – some ropes bind. Some ropes are barbed wires in disguise, but when we’re in the morass, we often grasp at whatever’s in front of us in spite of the red flags.

Coble does a nice job of weaving together the psychological aspects of this thriller into a well-written, well-paced story. Some of the twists and turns in Because You’re Mine will surprise you – others, however, are a tad too transparent to readers of this genre. All in all, however, if you like psychological thrillers, you will enjoy this book.

I know I’ve read some books by this author. Just can’t remember the names of them at the moment. I do remember one being a thriller! I typically like historical fiction instead of modern, though.

I’ve not gotten to read the book, but I must say that I am curious to see if it would be a ‘healing’ read for me. I can say that I thought I achieved my dream of someone who would be there for me as a husband, he was a deceiver, and that was something that I know God tried to tell me at a certain point but I wouldn’t listen because he seemed ‘so’ nice and ‘so much’ in need and I thought that perhaps he could be changed. Would this book be healing?
I also have a beautiful voice and enduring heart. I really truly need the help of friends and family in order to heal from the effects of the lie. Just the title- ‘Because Your Mine’ implies someone wanting to take total grasp of someone else, very scary but very much like the Aspie psychopath I met, and that’s no exaggeration.

      Hi Christina,
Thank you very much for you comment – I really appreciate it! I am so sorry that the person you chose and who was supposed to be a supportive and protective life partner deceived you so, leaving you emotionally bruised and battered. It is a blessing to know that you were ultimately able to extricate yourself from such a scary and dangerous situation. You should be really proud of yourself.

Regarding your question about the book, I don’t think it would be at all “healing” for you. It is likely to trigger you more than anything else since it is an essentially fatal attraction psycho type of story. I hope this helps.
