Get Out Of That Pit by Beth Moore – Book Review

Have you ever reached a point in life where you’ve felt overwhelmed by circumstances and you don’t know how to rise above them?

If so, you’re not alone. Did you know that David – the beloved shepherd boy who became the King of Israel and was called a man after His own heart by God– once found himself in such a terrible situation that he penned the following words in Psalm 40:1-3?

I waited patiently for the Lord;
He turned to me and heard my cry.
He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire;
He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.
He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and hear and put their trust in God.

The key to this passage is that, although David found himself in a slimy pit, he didn’t stay there. He turned to the one person who had the power to deliver him out of the darkness, and God did not fail him.

The exciting news is that the same God that heard David’s cry and delivered him out of the mud and mire of the slimy pit is ready to deliver you out of your pit too!

For the past decade, popular Bible teacher Beth Moore has been delivering this message of hope to readers around the world. Now through her new 10th Anniversary Edition of Get Out Of That Pit: Straight Talk About God’s Deliverance, she’s ready to spread the good news to a new generation of God-seekers!

Whether you’ve been thrown into, slipped into, or jumped headfirst into a pit, Beth offers a simple but effective model for getting out of your pit that involves crying out, confessing, consenting, and then waiting upon God for your deliverance. She then teaches you to praise God for delivering you out of the pit and to stay out of that pit in the future!

Get Out Of That Pit is a good book to read when you’re stuck and need encouragement. There’s a Discovery Guide at the end of the book that offers reflective questions, making this a good tool for group Bible study and for mentorship.

Depth-wise, Get Out Of That Pit is best suited for newer believers and for those who are growing in their faith.

I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.

    The title of the book says a lot and I love the recipe of “crying out, confessing, consenting, and then waiting upon God for your deliverance.” I will be on the look out for this book. Thanks for reviewing it.
