Kingdom Disciples by Tony Evans – Book Review

Kingdom Disciples

Kingdom Discples: Heaven’s Representatives On Earth – Book Review

Have you ever wondered why there are so many churches in America, yet so few of them seem to impact our culture in a truly significant way?

In his new book Kingdom Disciples: Heaven’s Representatives On Earth, Dr. Tony Evans says that the missing key in the lives of many churches and believers is discipleship. Until we fully understand what biblical discipleship is, and align ourselves with God’s plans for discipleship, we will continue to lack the authority and power to live a transformed life and to inspire and empower change in the lives of others.

In order to become a disciple, we must first understand exactly what being a disciple means. Tony writes:

A kingdom disciple can be defined as a believer in Christ who takes part in the spiritual developmental process of progressive learning to live all of life in submission to Jesus Christ. The goal of a kingdom disciple is to have a transformed life and to replicate God’s kingdom values in the lives of others. Through His kingdom disciples, God exercises His rule from heaven to earth.

Or, to put it another way:

A disciple is a person who has decided that following Jesus Christ takes precedence over everything else… A disciple looks and acts like the one he or she follows.

Tony recognizes that discipleship is not easy and it does not occur overnight. The process entails being willing to take up our own cross daily to follow Jesus. It requires a commitment to die to self and to conform ourselves in to the image and likeness of Christ in terms of our character, conduct, attitudes, actions, and behavior. It involves sharing the gospel with others and teaching them Jesus’ commands so that they can become followers as well.

If you are ready to deepen your commitment to Christ – if you are ready to walk in the full power and authority of the life God envisions for you – I highly encourage you to read Kingdom Disciples and discover how God may be calling you to the next level!

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

  2. I have become a fan of Tony Evans. I have read all of his Kingdom series like this one. I have heavily highlighted them, because they are filled with truth and excellent advice! I also read his book “Detours”, which also is really good. I gave my copy to a friend, and she was loving it, when her millennial son grabbed it to read too.

So glad to hear you’re a Tony Evans fan Janet! He was one of the early influences on my faith and it’s so good to know that he has remained strong in the Lord all of these years and that his children are impacting the kingdom for God too! I will have to check out the rest of the Kingdom series.
