The CSB Spurgeon Study Bible – Book Review
Few modern-day preachers have has as much of an impact on Christianity as Charles Spurgeon – the “Prince Of Preachers”. Did you know that in his lifetime, Spurgeon preached to over 10 million people (without modern day technological conveniences such as television and the Internet)? His written sermons have impacted millions more since 1866!
With that in mind, I could not have been more excited when I learned that the B&H Publishing Group was publishing The CSB Spurgeon Study Bible in their hallmark Christian Standard Bible translation – except, perhaps, when I discovered that Pastor Alistair Begg had been chosen to edit this book!
The CSB Spurgeon Study Bible comes in several designs – for my review, I received the well-crafted Brown/Tan Cloth Over Board edition, which is perfect for personal study or for giving as a gift to your husband, pastor, or the Spurgeon-lover in your life!
Charles Spurgeon is known for the depth of his theological insights, and it is his commentary that forms the “study” portions of this Bible. The CSB Spurgeon Study Bible has a number of unique features, including the following:
- Introductory Biography of Charles Spurgeon
- Study Notes crafted from Spurgeon’s sermons
- Extracted sermon illustrations placed on the same page as the associated biblical text

The CSB Spurgeon Study Bible is a rich study Bible that readers of Spurgeon will love. What I appreciate most about this Bible is its creative design concept – the love, care and attention to detail that is evident throughout – and the fact that even though this isn’t a large print Bible, the text was clear, legible, and readable throughout.
I rate this Bible 5 out of 5 Stars.
