How To Care For Your Pet’s Wounds
If you’re like me, every now and then, you will end up with a minor cut or abrasion as you go about your normal activities of the day. Most frequently, when this happens, I have either become the unwitting victim of a malicious paper cut, a scrape from a fall, or the accidental swipe of a cat’s claw during playtime. To make sure my cuts do not become infected, I usually keep a box of alcohol pads on hand that I an use to quickly and conveniently clean out my wounds.
But, it recently occurred to me – what should we pet parents do if our precious cats and dogs ever accidently end up with a cut or abrasion that isn’t serious enough to require a vet visit, but definitely requires cleansing and parental tender loving care?
Most of us know that we should never use human medications on cats or dogs, but should keep specialty treatments on hand that are safe for our furry family members.
I did a little digging and discovered that Fauna Care makes a specialty line of pet wound care products that are specifically designed for general and first aid care as well as moisturization and anti-fungal conditions.
There products work for your pet rabbits as well. They even have an equine line for if you are lucky enough to have your own horse!

Actually, I do have a petcare kit for Charlie! When I clip his nails sometimes I hit the quick and it bleeds so I have this powder they sell and you put it on there and it stops the bleeding right away! Thanks for asking. Have a great day my friend and thank you for all the wonderful recipes too! hugs…. I LOVE TO COOK… my daughter is the baker in the family. I’m not so good I must admit.

Yes, the more cats you have, the more important it is too have supplies on hand for when something happens!
I did a pet first aid course. I feel happier that I can cope with minor emergencies BUT it’s still ‘when in doubt get to a vet’.

We always keep some antiseptic spray though we don’t have to use it very often.

I always had cornstarch on hand to stop the bleeding (we carried it in our kits when I worked at a zoo in case a bird of prey broke a feather too close to the body). It is good to know there are actual products to help our pets.

Not having any pets besides goldfish, I had never even thought of pets needing different medicines for first aid.
Excellent and timely advice now spring is on the way (ish) I shall start putting together a kit ASAP.

This is so good to know! I remember when our lovely cats were alive, they would often have a nick or scratch (or occasionally worse) and I was often at a loss for what to do to help them feel better. Thank you so much for sharing, and for being a part of the Hearth and Soul Link Party.

Definitely good to know. Our cat, who is an amazing jumper, missed her jump today and tumbled pretty bad. I was worried but she seems okay.

It was my veterinarian who suggested that we put together a pet wound first aid kit. I don’t know why we didn’t think about this sooner. You are right to say that we should never use human medications on cats or dogs. This is why regular wound care for humans won’t work for dogs and cats. We definitely will be purchasing some specialty treatments to keep on hand.
