The Unblemished Trilogy by Sara Ella – Book Review

Place two singers side by side and let them each sing the same song. Have you ever noticed that, while both may have perfect pitch and sing the song in an ear-pleasing manner, for some unexplainable reason, you find yourself drawn to one and not the other? The French have a term for that – they call it “je ne sais quoi”. We say they have the “it” factor.

If you’re looking for a fantasy writer who knows how to draw you into her world and place you under her spell, then check out Sara Ella – she has that “it” factor in spades!

Recently, I became immersed reading Unblemished, Unraveling, and Unbreakable – the three books in The Unblemished Trilogy by Sara Ella. This series is engaging, well-paced, and written with an ease and a flow that is lacking in so many books of its kind!

Unblemished

Unblemished (the first book in the trilogy) introduces us to Eliyana – an adolescent girl most people overlook – a girl who struggles to fit in – a young heroine whose story is just waiting to unfold. In this tale, she discovers that kings and kingdoms, princes and wars are but a Reflection away… and that love and a destiny greater than she can imagine await her if only she can survive the loss of her mother and those who seek to harm her.

Unraveling

This grand fantasy that’s filled with trolls, sword fights, and doors to distant realms continues in Unraveling (the second book in the trilogy). While Unblemished may have left us thinking it was safe to come out from under the covers, Unraveling reminds us that the hard work begins only when the story seemingly ends.

In Unraveling, Eliyana tries to fix what is broken throughout the Reflections. She begins to realize that having a heart divided between two very disparate guys has far reaching consequences as she feels the power of the Verity waning. Can she figure out a solution before all is lost? Can she bring herself to sacrifice either of her loves for the survival of all? Unraveling ends on a cliffhanger, leaving you hanging on the edge of your seat.

Unbreakable

Unbreakable (the final story in the trilogy) opens with a haunting poem and prelude that foreshadows the ending and death of a beloved character without revealing who it actually is. We are then left to wonder about who will be sacrificed and why throughout the entire book – but it’s in these details that the author excels.

As we travel to the Emerald City, back in time to war torn Italy and even the beginning (or was it the end?), we’ll discover that a troll’s heart can be broken, the world is connected and redemption may be possible. We also learn, as Eliyana struggles to become the person she is meant to be, how our responses to the obstacles we face are often the catalyst that facilitate our growth.

The Unblemished Trilogy is an epic trilogy on a grand scale that covers many dimensions and Reflections. While each book is wonderful on its own, this story really needs to be read in its entirety to be fully understood and appreciated.

I rate these books 4 stars.

That sounds like a neat series unlike any others I’ve read.
