Making God Smile (Fruit Of The Spirit Devotional) – Book Review

Making God Smile

Making God Smile: Living The Fruit Of The Spirit One Day At A Time

How do you learn to live a life that’s filled with faithfulness, self-control, patience, gentleness, kindness, love, goodness, peace, and joy?

You do it by choosing to follow the leading of God and His Holy Spirit day in and day out in every aspect of your life!

Need some encouragement? Kim Taylor Henry has written a unique devotional entitled Making God Smile: Living The Fruit Of The Spirit One Day At A Time to keep you focused as you pursue your goal!

Making God Smile is a 365-day devotional that devotes 40 days to helping you to better understand and cultivate each fruit of the spirit in your life. Kim chose the number 40 because of its spiritual significance in the Bible – she indicates that it represents “a time of resting, followed by renewal, restoration, or a momentous change.”

Each devotion contains a passage of Scripture to reflect on, a reflection filled with spiritual insight, and a prayer to prompt you as you begin your own conversation with God.

The devotions are undated (Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, etc.) so that you can comfortably begin your journey whenever you like.

If you are trying to grow in your spiritual life, Making God Smile is a wonderful devotional companion to accompany on your daily walk. As Kim writes:

For God’s fruit is fruit of the spirit, not fruit of the believer. To live it consistently, we need to follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives (Galatians 5:16). When we do, we will produce his fruit; we’ll live the way he wants us to. When we ignore him and try to produce it alone, we’ll still produce fruit, but it won’t be the Spirit’s fruit. It will be its opposite – lack of love, absence of joy, discord, impatience, unkindness and self-centeredness, deficiency of goodness, unfaithfulness, harshness, and little self-control.

I encourage you to cultivate the fruit of the spirit in your life not only as a way of Making God Smile, but also as a way of making those around you smile too!

I rate this books 5 out of 5 stars.

Hi Mary- I agree! Making God Smile is great for individual and for group study. In groups, we can encourage each other, discuss what’s been read, and hold each other accountable. In fact, I’m working on a Leader’s Guide for group study! You can send me your e-mail through the Contact page on my website at KimTaylorHenry.com or directly at kim@kimtaylorhenry.com and I’ll be happy to let you know when the Leader’s Guide becomes available.
