Tsunami – Super Soaker
Thought For The Day
Keep your head above water!
Maine Coons are one of several cat breeds that love to play with water. Tsunami and Legend are no exceptions to this rule! They are attracted to dripping faucets like magnets. They like to swat at water drops and drink out of running faucets. They not only love their personal drinking fountains, they are frequently seen swimming in them like they are trying to cross the English Channel!
Recently, I began putting down extra water bowls to help keep them hydrated. As you can see, Tsunami had other plans for these bowls! After catching him soak in his water bowl for the umpteenth time, I get the distinct impression that what he really wants is a small wading pool to play in for the summer. What do you think? Should I succumb to his latest cat whim?

Beautiful kitty!
Unfortunately, yesterday we had to put down our 17 yr. old cat, Jasmine. I’m so upset, but I’m also glad she got to live a long life filled with lots of love.
Oh Antonette, I am so sorry for your loss! Our prayers are with you at this time!
I would totally take the hint and get them a little wading pool! They will love it!
A wading pool for a cat? Sounds funny but I bet he’d love it.
Sorry to hear about Antonette’s kitty. Our old girl is 20 something and sadly I don’t think she has much time left. She doesn’t appear to be suffering but just over the past couple weeks she has gotten incredibly slow and spends most of her time (more than usual) sleeping.
It is so sad when our beloved pets age. I have lost so many cats over the years… I still mourn for each and every one of them. I pray that my two boys live long and healthy lives – and I hope that you are able to cherish your remaining days with your dear pet!
Whatever works in the heat.

I totally agree with Theresa LOL 🙂
Yes get a wading pool! I’d love to see what your cats would do in that!!!

The photo of Tsunami sure makes me smile! Based on that one photo I think a small wading pool would be a great idea. Tungdil, the cat who passed away this year, loved to make waves in a large bowl of water. 🙂
Many a morning I find that bowl on the floor because he pushes it all around the table (at the very least, he needs a bigger bowl!) Of course, that just means more water to clean up…
Im so glad I signed up to receive updates on wordless Wednesday!! Thanks for having it.
Have a great day! Karren
You too Karen – I just left a cactus comment on your blog! 🙂
One of our cats fell in the pool today and he sure didn’t enjoy the water! What a beautiful cat!
Thanks Melanie! Your poor kitty – they much prefer it when THEY do the diving! 🙂
What a cutie! I didn’t know any cats liked to play in water.
Yes – I don’t know if Maine Coons will actually get IN the water and play (although there is a good chance that Tsunami might get in shallow water as I find him frequently soaking in water spills which makes me think those spills are intentional!) BUt I HAVE seen photos of certain breeds actually playing IN the water – I believe Bengals and Savannahs do – I’ve even seen photos of some cats in the shower with their owners! That’s a little much for me… but I DO find it fascinating to watch them play WITH it!
I say ” Give him the pool for summer!” Lovely shot! Thanks for hosting.
You’re welcome – happy WW to you! 🙂
So glad to be back, I missed 2 weeks! Happy to find kitty resting at the water….. my 6 feline children cannot get enough of the faucets….. the kitchen must always be on a constant drip!
That is so funny! My cats flip out at water, which makes me grateful to have a standing shower with sliding door when I need to bathe them!
Playing in water is one thing. Getting a bath? That’s quite another, lol! I think THEY like to be in control! 🙂
He looks so much like a cat I once had named Whiskers!
I don’t blame that kitty for wanting to soak in some water. It’s hot outside.
Thanks for hosting the hop, have a great week.
Oops! Who put that there? 🙂
I had a cat who used to love to lay in the bathroom sink. Never quite figured out why…
Happy Wednesday!
So cute! We had a cat that LOVED water too! Beautiful!
LOL, now my girls love their water foutain, so long as it’s only for drinking. Try giving them a bath…well bandaids will be needed. Glad to see you two have so much fun with the water. Happy WW!
Oh wow that’s so cute.
I would love to see a wet cat.
Sorry for your loss, she was a beautiful cat! Thanks for the Wordless Wednesday linky!
Cheers,
Char

haha oh wow, that’s some long fur!! Bet it’s nice and cool though 😉 hehe
Get them a pool! Love it!
One of my cats loves dripping water. The other two could care less! lol
Yes if it’s nearly as hot as it is here then YES!! lol
I am kinda confused. I keep checking in on Wednesday to join this link party but ya’ll post on Tuesday. Should I have my post on my blog on Tuesday and then link it here?
Thanks for the help!!
Janiene
Hi Janiene,
I wrote you a private email but I wanted to respond here as well because a few other people have also asked me this question:
In order to best accommodate the needs of my Wordless Wednesday community – many of who are in an International time zone that runs ahead of our US time – as well as the schedules and preferences of those who participate in this party – I now open this party on Tuesday afternoons, US time.
The party remains open all week and you are welcome to share your family-friendly photos at any time. So, if Wednesday is the best posting time for you – by all means, share on Wednesday – but, if you like to post when the link first opens – then, Tuesday is the day!
I send out an e-mail to participants to let them know when the party is open to keep them in the loop. You should have received an e-mail as you are on the list.
Hope this helps! IF you have any further questions, just let me know! 🙂
Ha ha. My kitty was running through the sprinkler today.
I just love cats! 🙂 I say go for the wading pool! I can’t wait to see the WW post with those photos! 😉 Thanks for hosting. I am glad to be able to join you for another week of friendship and photos! Many blessings, Lisa
So looking forward to spending a sweet wordless Wednesday with ya. Thanks for this.
xo,
Nicole

You’re so welcome Nicole – have a beautiful Hawaiian day! 🙂
That’s amazing. I had no idea. What a fascinating breed!
They are TRULY a fascinating breed! 🙂
I love it! I used to have a Maine Coon growing up, and he was also a fan of the water, too!
Aren’t they the coolest cats? I have yet to meet one that didn’t love the water!
Great Picture! Cute kitty with some furrrrr!
Such a pretty cat! I’ve never heard of a cat liking water… Crazy to think there’s actually a breed that does!
There are several – of the breeds that do, most like to play with the water – but there are a few who actually will get in it!
Most cats do not like getting wet though (as evidenced by Sparkle’s comments)! 🙂
Years ago we had a manx that loved to play in water. So did his sister! Funny cats!
Manx are so cool – I had a good friend who had a Manx and I loved that cat – so much personality! Great breed!
I think a small wading pool is a splendid idea! I knew bengals like the water, but I didn’t realize there were other domestic breeds that did. I’m a bit into trivia, so thank you for the information, in addition to the adorable picture!
Something I recently found out: The Turkish Van Cat is known as the “Swimming Cat” because many members of this breed have been known to swim in the water! (if you do a search on Google, you can find pictures!)
EWWW, Tsunami, you are getting WET!
Yeah, Sparkle, but water is FUN – plus, it gives your humans something to DO – how else would they spend their days were it not for doting over us, feeding us, and cleaning up our messes? ME-ow!
Maybe start with a dish pan of water before graduating to the wading pool if you are not sure he’ll actually get in the water?
Great idea! I’m not sure if he will actually get in it (although if it is very shallow he might as I have seen him intentionally spill water and then go lie in it to cool off) – but I have no doubt that he will at the very least splash, wash his pawas, and have a grand old time making a big mess for me to clean up – lol!
How adorable! Both Tsunami and Legend should have a “kitty” pool. Your photo is stunning and I love those eyes. I think this is my first time joining Wordless Wednesday. Enjoy the rest of your week.
Welcome to Wordless Wednesday Donna – I’m so glad you’re joining our party! Your hydrangeas are just lovely – I hope you get a lot of visitors as I KNOW everyone will love your beautiful blog! 🙂
Maggie & Chloe like water, but Grizelda wants to be a plumber!
I did an old historic photo of an actual Badlands saloon.
There were so many lovely comments here. I love to hear everyone’s furry companion stories. Unfortunately, I can’t join this week, but I’ll be here for the next one 🙂
I would be oh, so happy if you joined us at Tuesday Alchemy http://tuesdayalchemy.blogspot.com
Lots of joy!
Thank you so much for the invite Corrinne – hope you got my email! 🙂
We have one cat that loves water , but won’t drink it out of a bowl. Sits at the faucet and meows when she is thirsty and then plays with the water forever before she actually takes a drink. But, of course, since cats rule literally … we stand at the faucet and keep it on for her. Have a wonderful week …
Andrea @ From The Sol
Been there – done that (still do, lol!)
Drinkwell makes a fabulous line of drinking fountains that my cats LOVE! The first cat I introduced it to literally hugged her fountain and slept next to it for the first few nights, she loved it so much! Many cats prefer drinking running water and it is supposed to be better for them. Of course mine love to play in theirs as well – so I am constantly cleaning it out – and they are so big, I had to upgrade to the LARGE, DOG SIZED fountains for them!!!
You know how the like tubs so maybe something small with just a bit of water?
Great idea – that way, if they don’t like it – I can still use it for something else! 🙂
Your Tsunami reminds me of my Calvin who passed away in 2009. He too was a Maine Coon. Chessie (also a Maine Coon) is still with us and turned 15 yesterday. Maine Coons are gorgeous Gentle Giants and yours looks exceptional.
Happy birthday Chessie! 🙂
Thanks for the link-up!
Before going the wading pool route, how about trying a dish pan? You know those square, semi-shallow plastic pans? Just to see if they would like that much water (and how big of mess they could make with it).
Great idea – although you would be amazed at how much of a mess these two can make! 🙂
That would be awfully adorable to see the cats playing in the wading pool. I have one that loves the shower and wants to join me in there.
