A Christmas Home by Greg Kincaid

A Christmas Home

Thought For The Day
The greatness of a nation and its moral progress
Can be judged by the way its animals are treated.
Mohandas Gandhi

Changes are coming to the tiny town of Crossing Trails – changes that threaten its very survival. The town’s largest employer is going out of business. Vital services that residents take for granted are now at risk. Crossing Trails is facing the kind of trials that very few communities rebound from.

The citizens of Crossing Trails had watched many of its smaller neighbors whither away under a climate of unrelenting economic pressure. So, when George and Mary Ann McCray learn that the local animal shelter – home to 56 dogs and cats – will be shut down in a few short weeks, they cannot help but worry not only what will become of the animals, but also what will become of Todd – their 24 year old son who struggles with a few developmental challenges but is gifted with animals and is trying to find his way in the world – and Laura – his physically challenged friend who volunteers there.

A Christmas Home is a beautifully and sensitively written novel which tells the story of how people within a community band together and work towards the common goal of finding homes for abandoned but loving pets who deserve a second home and jobs for their friends. It touches on a number of social issues in the process. A Christmas Home is the third in a series of animal and holiday-themed novels by Greg Kincaid. You do not need to read the first two novels to enjoy this one – but you may want to after completing this one.

I enjoyed A Christmas Home immensely and would enjoy reading more about protagonist Todd McCray and the dogs he trains in the future.
