Decorating With Packing Tape
Are you looking for a versatile crafting product you can use to decorate just about anything? If so, give Decorative Packing Tape a try!
Decorative Packing Tape is like Washi Tape on steroids!
- It’s inexpensive – a little goes a long way!
- It doesn’t require any special skills or fancy tools to use!
- It enables you to cover larger surfaces than Washi Tape.
- It allows you to decorate many normal-sized items per roll!
- It’s fun to play with!
The only tool you really need for working with Decorative Packing Tape is a sharp pair of scissors and you’re good to go!
Today I wanted to share the pretty Altered Box I made using one of the free Decorative Packing Tapes I received from WholePort. To see how versatile these Decorative Packing Tapes are, take a peek at the Earth Day Card I created using a different Decorative Packing Tape!
The following Tutorial shows how easy it is to work with these Decorative Packing Tapes. I hope it inspires you to create something beautiful using your own products!
Altered Box Tutorial
1. Gather your project supplies. For this project, I used the Decorative Packing Tape I received from Wholeport as well as an unaltered box, flowers, distressing inks and embellishments from my personal crafting stash.
2a. Cover the box with Packing Tape.
2b. Cover the box in layers, overlapping pattern wherever possible to create a smooth line.
2c. Trim any excess tape as you go.
3. Distress the edges with color-coordinated ink.
4. Add your embellishments. I included some pretty color-coordinated flowers and a fabric-covered brad!
You can decorate the inside of the box if you like, or leave it bare, depending on how you intend to use it.

Hi Belinda,
If you like the tapes, perhaps you can order them online!
Thanks for stopping by. Have a wonderful day! 🙂
That is such a great idea. I’ll keep my eyes open for some tape….never really looked for it before. Happy WOYWW. Pam#23
Hi Pam,
Once you know what to look for, you’ll be amazed at what you might find – and where you might find them!
My first introduction to this item?
The dollar bins at my local Michaels (where I got some gorgeous rolls awhile back!)
Have a great day Pam!
Awesome idea. Never thought of using the duck tape to cover things like the box. Another never is I have never heard of WholePort for crafting supplies so I will have to go check them out. Thanks for the links. Hope you have a great week. Vickie #36
I never heard of them either until they contacted me – now I see them everywhere!
I first discovered this type at Michaels awhile back – it was too pretty and too inexpensive to resist!
It’s a lot of fun to create with and unlike other products, you get SO much on a roll for the little you’re spending, you truly wonder how you are going to use it all up! 🙂
One of the things I like about it is that you don’t need a separate adhesive for it (I go through SO much adhesive working with paper all of the time!)
The other thing that is nice about the WholePort tape is that it is relatively low tack – I was able to life and re-align my tape without ripping apart the box underneath before pressing it down for a more permanent stick! 🙂
Have a great week Vickie! 🙂
Pretty tape, the box looks fab! Helen, 5
Thanks Helen! I had a few other projects in mind but when I saw the box, I thought that would be a great place to start! 🙂
I love that tape that you have used it has totally changed the box giving a really pretty box

Very Creative. Thanks for playing at Love To Scrap.
Hi joy
the packaging tape looks really interesting but is it something you only get in the us. we have a lot of washi tape but as you said it is quite expensive
janet #31
Hi Janet,
Actually, the packing tape that I featured is available online and is quite INEXPENSIVE – check it out!
I believe 2 rolls are $3.49 USD but you would have to check the site to verify as I received mine free.
I don’t know about the availability of Washi tape and/or decorative packing tape locally in the UK but I know both are available online for a wide range of prices and here in the US, I’ve found both cheaply as well!
Best of luck in your search (which, of course, is part of the fun!)
P.S. By the way, be sure to check out the end of the post where it mentions how you can get FREE supplies from Wholeport!
I’m NOT an affiliate for WholePort and I’m NOT required to pass this information along, but am doing so since it can be a great way to pick up or try new supplies – particularly for those of you who live in places where supplies are hard to come by! 🙂
Wow, I love this idea! TFS!
