Parallax View – Book Review

Are you ready to add a non-stop espionage thriller to your summer reading list? If so, delve with me into Parallax View by Allan Leverone! Once you start reading this action-packed book, you’ll be hard-pressed to put it down until you reach the very end!

Envision this scenario:

The year is 1987. Ronald Reagan is president of the United States. Mikhail Gorbachev is leader of the Soviet Union. The Cold War rages on around us.

Tracie Tanner – an attractive, 27-year old CIA clandestine ops specialist – is on a mission. She has been sent by her handler to East Germany to retrieve a Top Secret communiqué personally penned by Gorbachev and to deliver it – unopened – to President Reagan himself.

For Tracie, the assignment is not unusual. For her, it’s just another day. Compared to some of her assignments, she believes this one will be a “cakewalk.”

But – unbeknownst to her – the letter that Tracie carries is anything but ordinary. In her hands she holds a letter so explosive, it contents could change the world. She doesn’t realize that there are individuals in both the US and Soviet governments – including people she trusts – who will stop at nothing to prevent her from completing her mission. But, Tracie is about to find out.

When people around her start dying – specifically, people tasked with helping Tracie complete her mission –Tracie realizes that she is in trouble.

Can Tracie trust Shane Rowley – the handsome young air controller who just happens to be in the right place at the right time to pull her from a burning plane?

Should Tracie risk her career by opening the letter to see why her life is on the line?

How will Tracie complete her mission when assassins are hot on her trail, and danger and betrayal surround her on every side?

Parallax View is a suspenseful espionage thriller filled with non-stop action and excitement on every page. The plot is well conceived; the characters are well-developed; the dialogue is believable. The chapters are short, which I liked, because it made the book easy to read. There are a few places where the language is strong and the imagery is graphic – but they are few and in keeping with the context and character of the book.

I truly enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more of Allan Leverone’s books in the future!

Just finish reading your review and I know that Sister Dorothy Rachuba, SSND, who enjoys this type of reading , would be thrilled with this book; so I called her up and gave her the information so she could get it from the book mobile when it comes next week to Villa Assumpta.
