American Wife – Love, War, Faith, And Renewal – Book Review
When a young woman named Taya learned that her husband – her best friend, her confidante, her life partner, the father of her children – had been killed on February 2, 2013, during the happiest period of their lives, she was devastated, as any loving wife would be.
When we – her friends, family, community and the nation at large – learned that Taya’s husband had been murdered by a troubled young vet he was trying to help, we were stunned by the senseless tragedy.
You see, Taya’s husband wasn’t just an ordinary guy. Taya’s husband was American war hero Chris Kyle – better known to the public at large as “The American Sniper”.
Now, in what is one of the most highly anticipated memoirs of the year, Taya tells her entire story for the first time in American Wife – Love, War, Faith, and Renewal.
As I approached this book, I could not help but wonder, what it would be like to be married to a man who served our country in this capacity?
The portrait that Taya paints of Chris is that of a multi-faceted man. In American Wife, Taya shares a beautiful story of the man she fell in love with – a man who was a loving husband, a faithful friend, a dedicated father – and a man who was also highly dedicated to serving his country.
That dedication, at times, put a strain on their marriage – but as they learned to adjust, it drew them closer to one another.
And then – unexpectedly, without warning – Chris was gone.
In the aftermath of Chris’s tragic death – Kaya gracefully and courageously shares what it’s like to grieve and to rebuild her life, especially while living in the public eye.
American Wife is an inspiring memoir filled with love and heartbreak, faith and purpose – a remarkable story that you will not want to miss!
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
