Welcome To Wordless Wednesday At Create With Joy!
Tsunami Tests The FURminator Dual Brush For Dogs!
Have you ever woken up and discovered your cat is having a really bad hair day?
If so, you’ll appreciate the precious face that greeted me this morning!
Mom – I need help!
I slept in my water dish and now I can’t do a thing with my hair!
This isn’t the first time that Tsunami and his luscious locks have needed a little makeover magic from Mom. Thanks to my friends at Chewy.com, however, this time I was armed with a little surprise!

They call this the FURminator Dual Brush for Dogs – but if you have a large cat like Tsunami, why not give it a try?
Since Tsunami’s current complement of combs and brushes isn’t quite getting the results we desire (my cat sees them and heads for the hills!), I decided to go renegade and add a new product to his grooming arsenal – the FURminator Dual Brush for Dogs!
(Shhh – don’t tell Tsunami about the “dog” part –
Let’s just make that our little secret!)
Since Tsunami is bigger than most small dogs (who this brush is purportedly designed for) – and since I’m not the first feline mama to adapt this brush for kitty use (I’ve seen your posts! you know who you are!) – I figured, why not give this a try?
The FURminator Dual Brush features a pin brush for long-coated pets and a nylon brush that’s good for most coat types!
When I introduced Tsunami to his new brush, he was extremely curious about the FURminator. He took several moments to examine it to make sure it passed muster. Once Tsunami completed his rigorous quality control inspection, we were ready to begin!
First I brushed him using the soft, nylon brush side to smooth his coat and let him acclimate to the brush. Usually, Tsunami will let me brush him a few times before he starts to twist, turn, slap the brush, or bolt, but it turns out that Tsunami absolutely loved the feel of the FURminator Dual Brush against his fur! Every time I stopped to clean out the brush, he turned his head to see why the brush had stopped stroking him!

The biggest surprise came when I brushed him with the long pins – he bliissfully stretched out for more!
Then, I began to brush him with the stiff, pin side of the brush, which is designed to work on long hair. I tested the brush beforehand and found that the bristles were stiffer than most of the current brushes that I own, so I was sure that this would send Tsunami bolting for the hills. Imagine my surprise when Tsunami stretched out across the table so that he could fully enjoy his grooming session! I have never seen him so cooperative during grooming time in all the years that I’ve lived with him!
Tsunami was so relaxed that when Magellan came over to see why his brother was getting attention and he was not – choosing to climb over Tsunami in an effort to disturb his brother’s calm – even the presence of the little interloper could not disturb Tsunami’s peace of mind!
As you can see from our experience with the FURminator Dual Brush, Tsunami loved it (even if their marketing folks think it’s for dogs!) The only drawback to the product is the protective plastic cover which, conceptually, is a great idea but – in actuality – did not work at all. We tossed the cover but we kept the brush!
Thanks Chewy.com for allowing us to go renegade and think outside of the box! (They provided us with a complementary brush to review).

We’ve just recently purchased a very similar brush for our ragdoll. He loves it.

It is amazing the difference a brush can make. I have the FURminator for cats which is much smaller and has very fine teeth that removes the loose undercoat from double-coated cats like the Maines. Because Tsuanmi’s coat is so dense he dislikes it which is why I wanted to try this brush – it works differently and the wider bristles are apparently much more to his liking!
My Sacha refuses to be brushed and gets very upset. In fact the only animal in the house that likes being brushed is Miss crew cut Geri who doesn’t need it.

Usually I can only get a few brush strokes in at a time before Tsunami runs off so I was shocked when Tsunami stretched out on the table and cooperated (that NEVER happens!)
As a matter of fact, I did two sessions with him today and he was in kitty heaven for both of them!

Oh goodness Tsunami, good that you have a combo brush to get your coat in beautiful condition after your nap. He is so majestic!
Hope you enjoy your day!

Thanks Karren – Tsunami has such a beautiful coat – but he’s a little more high maintenance then the average Maine Coon!
What fun. When I was a kid my dog used to love being brushed.

Not only does it look like a cool brush, but Tsunami seems to likes it and maybe even consider it a new toy or early (very early) Christmas 🙂 gift.

Oh, Tsunami looks so relaxed . I guess it would sort of be like a massage or spa day for kitties!! What’s not to love?!
Years ago when we had a Golden Retriever, she absolutely loved being brushed. Now we do the same with our ” grand-puppies”!! LOL

says:
Yes, he absolutely had a day at the spa! I guess Magellan wants an appointment as well now!
Isn’t it fun to brush your pets when they enjoy it? I find it very relaxing and bonding!

Now that I have a long haired cat, I realize I need to be more diligent about brushing! Maybe this one will work!
Have a great day Ramona!

You don’t know how many brushes we’ve gone through over the years – what one cat likes, the others turn their noses up at!
SO happy I finally found one that Tsunami likes!

Thanks Karen – my cats are QUITE expressive!
My only long haired cat hates to be brushed ! I have to take her to the groomer !

Ha! We’ve never tried to groom our cat. I don’t think she’d let us anywhere near her! Thanks for the link up!

Cats are just like people – they make their brush preferences quite apparent!
We use the furminator on our dog and it works like a charm. Sounds like it made Tsunami’s day and his fur looks wonderful!
Twitter: CreateWithJoy1
says:
Thanks! We also have the smaller FURminator for cats but both boys seem to like this one a whole lot better!
When you find something Tsunami loves for all of that beautiful hair, you are doing awesome! I love the Garfield PSA. ♥

We just picked up this brush for one of our short haired dogs that won’t stop shedding. It was amazing how much fur came out with just 10 min of brushing!

I know what you mean Jennifer! Even short hair cats have so much hair…
Handy little item …
Very cool brush! It looks like it does a great job of getting those loose hairs out. Tsunami looks like he loved getting groomed. It has to feel good getting rid of those itchy loose hairs. One of my kitties loves to be groomed and the other is not as thrilled about it.
Thanks for the party, my cat, Koko would love this brush!
He looks like a lion in that first pic! What a beautiful kitty.
One of our cats absolutely loves being groomed. He’ll come running as soon as he hears us take out the brush. The other two only cooperate when they feel like it. No fighting, really, but they’re also all American Shorthairs, too. No tangles, just a lot of shedding, especially this time of year!

I’m so sorry you are under the weather Marie!
Having shots are the worst.
I hope you are back to your normal cheerful self soon! 🙂
What a gorgeous kitty! My kids loved his pictures.
I have a pomeranian puppy and it’s a challenge to groom him. It’s getting better with time. If Tsunami enjoys the brush then maybe I should give it a try. Maybe Scribbles will like it too. 🙂
I need to get one of those, I have a couple kitties that need that.
Pawkisses for a Happy Brushing Sunday 🙂 <3
We have had similar brushes in the past. Usually Mom uses a regular cat brush or the regular furminator. She thinks this dog variety looks pretty good and may want to try it on Giulietta. Thanks for joining our blog hop this weekend. Happy Father’s Day to your dad. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
So … I have to ask because I have this snotty, white witchy kitten who HATES to be cuddled, snuggled, etc. that I can brush but she hates me the whole time I’m doing it (umm, yes, she hisses and spits at me but doesn’t take any further action, she’s the Witch Cat) … I’m thinking maybe brush #4 that we have is too hard on her skin even though I’m gentle 🙁

Jan, Tsunami is super sensitive so I thought that getting a softer brush was the answer to his problems – but this new brush is actually FIRMER than the current brushes we’ve been using!
I thought for sure, because of that, he wouldn’t like it, but it is definitely his favorite!
All I can say is keep trying – perhaps you could even try one of those gloves (we did!)
A good brushing… looks heavenly! Glad he enjoyed it so much!
