Mary: Drawn In Bible Study by Eugene Peterson – Book Review
Are you a visual learner who loves to explore God’s Word by not only reading Scripture one story at a time but also by incorporating the creative disciplines of Bible Journaling, prayer, biblical meditation and coloring into your devotional time with God?
If so, then you are going to love the new Drawn In Bible Study Series from NavPress!
There are currently three books in the series that explore the lives of three beloved women in the Bible: Mary, Ruth and Esther. Today we’ll be taking a look at Mary: Seeing God Through The Eyes Of A Mother, which is surprisingly one of the few studies I’ve seen that actually explores the life of Mary – the mother of Jesus – in depth!
The format of each of these books is similar: the books open with an Introduction by Eugene Peterson, the translator of The Message Bible that is used in this book, and tips for how to get the most out of the study. Next comes a four-session lesson on Mary. Each of these lessons focuses on how God worked in Mary’s life – how Mary chose to believe in God and His promises to her every step of the way, no matter how incredible they seemed or how difficult it got – and invites us to look at our lives from a Mary perspective.
In what areas of our lives do we find ourselves dealing with something unexpected that we need to rely on God’s promises and follow Him in faith? Will we react in fear or in faith when we are faced with circumstances beyond our control that we do not understand?
I like so many things about this study, including the fact that it’s inviting to women at all levels of Bible study – that it meets women right where they are – that the questions are relevant and the illustrations are lovely – and that it’s easy to fit into one’s schedule. I also like that the book includes a section on how to lead the study at the back of the book so that anyone can pick this up and share it with their friends!
At only 75 pages, Mary is the perfect Bible study to accompany you when you need something light but still want to stay connected with God’s Word!
Here is one of my favorite quotes from the book:
The Scriptures not only reveal everything of who God is
But also everything of who we are.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
