Ruth: Drawn In Bible Study by Eugene Peterson – Book Review
Currently, my pastor is preaching about the book of Ruth on Sunday mornings. This series has been one of my favorites to date – and it’s been especially enjoyable to listen to his sermons and then go home and reinforce the lessons I’m learning as I journal my way through Ruth: Discovering Your Place In God’s Story – a new creative Bible study for creative women!
Ruth is part of the new Drawn In Bible Study Series from NavPress – a 4-week study that’s perfect for visual learners who love to incorporate Bible journaling, prayer, biblical mediation and color into their devotional time!
Like the other books in the series, Ruth opens with an Introduction by Eugene Peterson and tips for Bible study and features The Message Bible translation in the book, then delves into the heart of the study.
How do we respond when we are dealt difficult blows in our life? Will we give up in defeat and despair – live a life of bitterness – or trust in the Almighty, even when we cannot see what lies ahead or when the future we are faced with seems hopeless?
Eugene Peterson writes:
The book of Ruth is only a sample of what’s possible when we take the stories of other people seriously. It offers evidence that it can be done and provides the stimulus for others to do it. Every one of us, though, has to find his or her own way into the story.
I like this study for so many reasons. First, the questions that we’re reflecting on not only facilitate positive change but they also encourage us to get outside of ourselves and help us focus on how we can be a blessing to others. I also like the relevancy of the study – it’s something we can all relate to and benefit from at one point in our lives or another. I found the artwork and quotes uplifting and conducive to meditation. And, I appreciate the leader’s guide in the back of the book which makes it easy to share what we’re learning with others!
At only 75 pages in length, Ruth is the perfect Bible study to fit into a busy schedule and it’s perfect for women at all levels of study!
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

This really does look like an awesome study book line. I have never seen a study book like this before. that combined a creative side to be this interactive in a new way! I love that!
I love Eugene Peterson, so I would almost get these books just because his writing is so full of insights. I’m just not a color-er, and never have been. Such a pity!
