Are You An Overcomer?

If you are a fan of movies like War Room and Fireproof, you won’t want to miss Overcomer – the latest flick from the Kendrick brothers. In this film, high school basketball coach John Harrison and his team face an uncertain future when their town’s largest manufacturing plant shuts down unexpectedly. As hundreds of people move away, John reluctantly agrees to coach cross-country, a sport he doesn’t even like. His outlook soon changes when he meets Hannah Scott, an unlikely runner who pushes herself to the limit. Inspired by the words and prayers of a new friend, John starts to train Hannah for the biggest race of her young life.

One of the reasons that movies like Overcomer strike such a resonant chord with their audiences is because they dare to ask the questions we all grapple with at some point in our life.

Who am I? Do I matter? What defines me?

The following books were written to help you and your family explore these questions in a Christian context. We hope you enjoy these highly inspirational books as much as we have!

Wonderful: The Truth About Who I Am

Wonderful

Wonderful is a devotional written for middle-school children that help kids answer the question “Who Am I”? So often we are answer these questions with external answers such as “I’m a fifth grader” that don’t touch upon the heart of who we are. This book helps kids get to the heart of what matters about them – they are a beloved children of God, created to reflect God’s glory in unique ways.

Each colorfully illustrated devotional fills two pages and is written at just the right level to engage young readers.

Wonderful: The Truth About Who I Am is available through Amazon.

Revealed: Discovering Your True Identity In Christ

Revealed

If there is a teenage boy or a young man in your life who is struggling with identity-based issues, Revealed: Discovering Your True Identity In Christ will help them to learn that they aren’t defined in life by their grades, their looks, or their athletic skills. Instead, their identity is determined by God, who created them.

In Revealed, teens are invited to create an “Investigation File” about themselves and to explore the answers to the following questions through both reading and journaling/discussion questions strategically placed throughout the book:

  • Who are you?
  • What have you done?
  • What have you become?
  • Where are you going?

Although this book is marketed to young guys, I think this book would benefit male and female readers of all ages.

If you are looking for an inspirational book for your teens, be sure to add Revealed: Discovering Your True Identity In Christ to their reading list!

Radiant: His Light, Your Life

Radiant

Priscilla Shirer is one of my favorite woman’s Bible teachers – as a woman of God, she speaks to my heart – and in Radiant: His Light, Your Life, she’ll speak to the teenage girls and young women in your life about how they are uniquely created by God to reflect His light in a dark world.

In her tell-tale style, she shares highly engaging, personal and relatable stories (like how she successfully changed her name in high school – until her mother straightened her out right before graduation!), solid biblical teaching, and activities that will help our daughters and the young women we love apply the lessons they are learning to their lives.

Radiant: His Life, Your Light is available through Amazon.

Defined: Who God Says You Are

Defined

Children and teenagers aren’t the only people in our society who are confused about their identity. Adults who do not know the Bible and who don’t know what God says about them frequently fall prey to “identity crises” throughout their lives!

That’s why the Kendrick brothers wrote Defined: Who God Says You Are – to help you recognize who you are (from God’s perspective) so that you can lead a meaningful, purposeful life.

Defined helps us to explore our identity through biblical teaching from Ephesians and other key portions of Scripture. Each devotional-like chapter packs a powerful punch that is both inspirational and life-affirming!

Defined: Who God Says You Are is available through Amazon.
