Goodbye January, Hello February!

It seems like just yesterday we were ringing in the New Year. How can it be that we are now at the end of the month and moving into February? The passing of time (and our perception of it) is something that has always fascinated me. My intellect says that time passes by at an equal rate but experience says that the days are moving faster and faster with each passing year!

Perhaps that’s why I appreciate the prayer and wisdom expressed in Psalm 90:12 when it comes to planning and scheduling our time:

Teach us to number our days, so that we may gain a heart of wisdom,

This year, instead of filling our calendars to the brim with things we feel that we should be doing (but leave us unfulfilled and depleted at the end of the day), let’s do our best to intentionally slow down, re-prioritize, take things off of our calendars that don’t really matter to us, create margin, and add things that we really care about and want to do (but wouldn’t have the time to do otherwise).

When we look back on 2020, we want our year to be filled with good memories of joyful moments spent with the people we love doing the things we enjoy.

If you’re in need of a fresh start or a total do-over, remember – February is the new January! Don’t be discouraged if you haven’t found your Word of the Year or haven’t made or kept any of your New Year’s Resolutions, or muddled through January in a depressive funk. Your yesterday does not define your tomorrow and it certainly does not dictate today!
