The Secrets Of Bones: A Mystery – Book Review

Recently I was introduced to the work of cadaver dogs through The Finders by Jeffrey B. Burton and I’ll be honest – that book got me totally intrigued about how these dogs are being used to solve crimes. So, when I saw The Secrets Of Bones, the 2nd book in a new mystery series by Kylie Logan, I could not resist the urge to bump this to the top of my fiction-reading list.

I’m so glad I did!

The Secrets Of Bones gives us a glimpse into the life of Jazz Ramsey – an administrative assistant who works in an all-girls Catholic high school by day and trains cadaver dogs by night. When Jazz is asked to fill in for a missing speaker on career day, she brings a retired cadaver dog and her new puppy to the school to give a demonstration. Little does she know that her star dog is about to give the girls a demonstration they will never forget!

When a skeleton is discovered during the demo and the victim’s identity is revealed, shockwaves run throughout the community – and they keep growing stronger as one suspect after another keeps turning up!

Although Jazz isn’t supposed to be involved in investigating the case (she’s an administrative assistant after all, not a detective), she just can’t keep from snooping around… and where Jazz pokes her nose, trouble is sure to follow her!

The Secrets Of Bones was an enjoyable story to read, with a strong and likeable cast of main characters and an equally numerous cast of villains to dislike along the way.

As for the plot, there were a few things I suspected along the way on as well as some surprising twists that I did not see coming at all.

What I would have liked to have seen more of in this story were the dogs.

I read through this book quickly as I did not want to put it down and I liked it enough that I purchased Book 1 in the series, The Scent Of Murder, so that I could read more about Jazz’s adventures!

I look forward to reading the next book in this series as well.
