Off The Hook – Book Review
As you think about all of the various people who have crossed your path or have impacted your life in some way, shape or form, are there any names, faces, or situations that come to mind that leave you feeling hurt, angry, bitter, betrayed or ashamed? Are there people who cause you to experience a negative emotional ping every time you see them? Are there people who – no matter what you try to do to forget them and what they’ve done – somehow manage to take up permanent residence in your head?
If so, then I highly recommend you give yourself the gift of Off The Hook: How Forgiving You Frees Me. This book by Dana Tibbitts and Patti Goldberg of Hidden Manna Ministry is a comprehensive manual on what it means to forgive and a practical handbook on how to do so in a way that will bring healing to your soul.
Many people resist forgiveness because they erroneously believe it somehow entails letting bad people get away with causing us harm, but the authors say:
Forgiveness is simply a way to let go of old pain patterns and those responsible by taking them off your hook and turning them over to God’s hand. As a spiritual tool for redressing wrongs, forgiveness releases us from bondage, pain, torment and unholy alliance with those who’ve injured us.
Off The Hook provides us with a thorough look at the biblical process of forgiveness. As I go through this book, I am struck by how little we are taught about this process and how much we need it.
The authors do a fabulous job of providing practical examples of the benefits of forgiveness and the pitfalls of unforgiveness, contrasting lies that entrap us versus the truths that set us free, and giving us step-by-step guidance on how to apply the difficult task of forgiveness in our own lives.
Off The Hook is one of those rare books that that everyone needs and everyone should read. If you are bound to someone through the chains of unforgiveness, don’t hesitate to buy this book!
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.

Yes! My ex is that person. I’m so glad he moved far away!! He was very abusive physically and mentally.
I remember the freedom I experienced years ago when I first heard the quote similar to the title of this book, that forgiveness takes someone off the hook and releases you as well. Until then, I did not realize how much I was on the hook as well by harboring resentment and bitterness in unforgiveness. This looks like a powerful book in tackling such an important aspect of our lives. Unforgiveness can be such a vile weed that entangles us and robs us of joy.

I think forgiveness is something almost everyone struggles with. Maybe that’s one reason why Jesus said “forgive seventy times seven”. Thanks for the book recommendation.
