Standoff by Patricia Bradley – Book Review
If you tend to think of a park ranger’s job as laid back and peaceful due to the idyllic setting in which they spend their days, then Standoff – the first book in the new Natchez Trace Park Rangers Series by Patricia Bradley will be a real eye-opener for you. The book delves into the world of cartel crime and other criminal acts that occur along the beautiful Natchez Trace – a park that extends from Natchez, Mississippi to Nashville, Tennessee – and the impact of these crimes on the lives of the Danvers family.
Brooke Danvers is a second-generation park ranger who has trained to follow in her father’s footsteps as a Natchez Trace park ranger, but her world is turned upside down when he misses a ride-a-long she’s been anticipating and, later, his body turns up dead. She cannot accept the ruling that his death is a suicide and is determined to investigate her father’s death and find those responsible, although she has no idea where the investigative trail will lead and very little support.
That’s where Luke Fereday comes in. Luke – a former neighbor and love interest who mysteriously disappeared from her life 14 years ago – shows up at the right place at the right time and to lend his ear and support to her investigation. Little does she know that Luke is an undercover agent who has been trying to infiltrate a dangerous drug cartel for years… that her investigation will put her directly in harm’s way… or that the feelings that they once had for one another may re-ignite.
I enjoyed this story and look forward to future books in the series!
I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.
