We Remember 9/11
This Friday marks the 19th anniversary of a day that lives on in infamy not only in America but around the world. On September 11, 2001, nearly 3000 Americans lost their lives through terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and United Airlines Flight 93.
Although the shape of this year’s 9/11 ceremonies and commemorations may change in the wake of the coronavirus, it’s more important than ever that we remember not only the incredible men, women and children who lost their lives that day, but also the incredible resiliency and unity that our country exhibited after the attack.
In light of the things that are going on in our country right now, we need these qualities more than ever.
This weekend, a dear friend’s daughter will be celebrating her 18th birthday. There is now an entire generation of individuals among us who were not alive when 9/11 happened – who did not experience the horrors of this event first-hand – who one day may not know what 9/11 means or understand how our world shifted that day.
It’s up to those of us who have lived through the historical moments of the past to share them with the current generation so that the future generations will remember what has happened before them and hopefully, learn from these events.
One of my favorite stories to come out of 9/11 is Thunder Dog by Michael Hingson. Thunder Dog tells the heroic story of how a blind man (Michael) survived his morning in the North Tower on the 78th floor with the help of his guide dog Rosie – and how, in the process of escaping, they heroically led dozens of people to safety that day. If you’re looking for a highly inspirational book that is also perfect to read for National Guide Dog Month. I highly recommend Thunder Dog to you!
Friend Of The Week – InstaEncouragements
Speaking of inspiration, have you met Patsy of InstaEncouragements? Patsy’s blog is filled with faith-based resources that will encourage you, inspire you, and help you grow spiritually each day as you face the challenges of life head-on! Here’s a sampling of the types of articles you’ll find on her blog:
- The ABC’s of God’s Love Letter Challenge – A 25-week writing challenge that uses the alphabet as an acrostic and explores various aspects of God each week! This week’s challenge is Endure.
- Three Lessons From The Path Of Grief – 2020 has been a tough year for us all, but for those of us who have lost loved ones, the pain runs so much deeper. If you’re grieving (as I am right now), I encourage you to read this post!
- Proverbs 31 In 5 Minutes A Day – I am currently reading this book by Mari Hernandez-Tuten and it’s fabulous so I wanted to share Patsy’s review and encourage you to add this to your reading list!
More than ever, friendship matters. I encourage you to cultivate your online friendships by visiting Patsy, exploring her blog, and congratulating her on being our Friend of the Week at Create With Joy – then visit one another and leave some comment love as well!

Our Mom and Dad will always remember 9/11 and the lives lost and the heroes found. We do need our country back. Hey, Patsy looks like a real winner. Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
It is hard to believe it has been 19 years since 9-11! One of my granddaughters was born 4 days before so I always know how many years it has been. But when I look at her and think that she was a newborn when it happened and now she’s a college freshman, it’s pretty hard to believe.
That is a day none of us will ever forget . Thanks for hosting. Have a nice weekend. XO
Yes, it occurred to me this morning that the babies born around 9/11 are now adults. So important to keep the history alive.
Wow! Thank you so much for the lovely “Friend of the Week” honor! 🙂 We look forward to making new friends over at InstaEncouragements!!!
Congrats Patsy – enjoy your week in the sun! 🙂
Thank you so much for sharing this post! It’s so lovely!
Some great features today!
Thank you so much for hosting and have a great weekend 🙂
We will never forget that day. Tracey and I were talking about it this afternoon, and can both recall the events like it was yesterday. A buddy of mine from L.A. was visiting me in September 2001. We had originally planned to go be in NYC on 9/11, but went (including to Lower Manhattan) on 9/10 instead.
Hugs to you and the family, Ramona. Thanks for hosting!
Wow, Kevin – what a difference a day makes!
So glad you changed your plans.
I was originally scheduled to fly cross-country during that time but my husband talked me out of it beforehand as well.
Thanks for the party! Have a wonderful week.
