How’s Your December Shaping Up?
We all have idyllic images of what December should look like dancing around our heads. Some of us like Penny at Penny’s Vintage Home dream of a
White Christmas with beautifully decorated homes filled with meticulously lit trees and the scents of mouth-watering treats wafting through the air. Others long for silent nights and holy nights where all is calm and all is bright. And then, there’s the social butterflies among us who long for festive times when we’re rocking around the Christmas, bopping at the Christmas hop and caroling with the ones we love!
Of course, the global pandemic has changed the landscape of what traditional Christmas celebrations will look like for most of us this year. In California, which has been hit particularly hard by lockdowns and fallout, there will be no hopping, bopping or social gathering with anyone outside of our immediate family throughout the holiday season.
I don’t know about you, but I must confess: although I am an optimist at heart, after nine months of lockdown and a rather grueling year, I’m not as holly and jolly as I’d like to be right now.
Some days, I struggle.
That’s why this week, I’d like to introduce you to some bloggers who always know how to uplift my spirits. I’m sure I’m not the only one who could use a pick-me-up right about now.
One place I look forward to visiting each week is Brian’s Home (don’t worry, we are physically distanced!) For those of you who have not met Brian, you may be surprised to learn that Brian isn’t actually a human – he’s a feline (along with his buds Dolly, Seal and Simon) – but there is a fabulous human behind the scenes (Terry) who is one of our beloved December birthday buds!
Expressing gratitude is a great way to chase away the pandemic blues – so be sure to join Brian and his feline and human buds each week for Thankful Thursday (and check out their other parties and memes!)
Jed at iThrive3:20 shared a great article on How To Boost Creativity, which offers 10 surprisingly effective creativity boosters for anyone who’s in a creative slump. He’s got some really great tips for helping you to identify your creative obstacles and helping you get back in track. This is an especially great article to keep on hand as you head into the New Year. Don’t miss Jed’s tip for stacking these creativity boosters together at the end of his article!
Someone who’s not in a creativity slump, but who’s serving as a source of Christmas Craft and DIY inspiration this year, is Ann at The Apple Street Cottage. This week, she showed us how she turned a large sack into a delightful Christmas Mermaid Banner for her daughter, who loves and collects all things mermaid! The cool thing about this project is that she picked up the sack last January while perusing over leftover Christmas merchandise! How’s that for creative gift-giving?
In need of some humor? If you could use a good laugh right now, head over to see Katie at The Preppy Empty Nester. Katie writes about My Life As A Sitcom and seriously, all of your favorites are there. How many classic moments can you spot?
We need gratitude – we need creativity – we need humor – but most of all we need hope to survive. When you need hope, Dr. Michelle Bengston is the woman to turn to. This week, on her blog and podcast, she and guest speaker Tracy Steel tackle the timely topic of Hope For When Life Doesn’t Go As Planned. Listen to this – bookmark it – share it with a friend who needs to hear it!
In a year of physical distancing, social connections through online friendships are more important than ever. Please take a moment to visit one another – leave meaningful comments on each other’s blogs – make new connections – and congratulate our featured bloggers for being our Friends of the Week at Friendship Friday at Create With Joy!

Love that winter white santa!
Thanks so much for your feature. It was a joy to interview Tracy Steele and get a glimpse into how our creative God infuses our life with creativity in His image.
Thank you for such a lovely and inspiring post!
This has been a crazy year, but I’m glad you’re able to find pieces of joy! Thank you for hosting each week. Have a great weekend.
We love our pals at Brian’s Home. We’ve actually had the pleasure of hanging out with Brian’s dad, Terry, and he is wonderful. We will check out Jed, Ann, Katie, Dr. Bengston and Tracy, too. Certainly sounds like they have some uplifting stuff, which we could certainly use right now.
Ramona, I’m not sure if you saw, but we lost our Gracie on Tuesday. We’d like to think she and Tsunami are palling around at the Bridge now. Hugs to you, Roy and Magellan.
Dear Kevin,
Thanks for letting me know and I’m SO sorry for your loss. I’m also sorry that I’m just getting your note. As I indicated in my e-mail to you, I’ve been dealing with health issues for the past month and am just catching up on everything. I love the thought of Gracie and Tsunami palling around and am sure they will be the best of buddies. Take care and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need anything.
Just trying to make it through. I am just thinking that going through this year will make is stronger and more kind as a nation. That is my hope.
It is hard because many people are not following the rules and doing what they want and not caring about others. I am going to keep things safe in my house and that is all I can do.
You do your part and stay safe Patrick. I think of you frequently as my Northern neighbor. 🙂
Thanks for hosting the party. I hope the rest of your year is full of happiness, joy and peace.
