Friend Of The Week – Getting My Act Together
When was the last time that you received a call out of the blue that totally turned your world upside down? A few days ago, we received word that our landlord was selling the place we’ve called home for the past decade and that we had 6o days to move. This puts us in a terrible bind. We literally don’t know where we will be living by summer’s end (so please, keep us in prayer, and if you have any locales you’d recommend, please drop me a line or leave a comment!)
Perhaps this is why, as I was going through this party’s link-ups, I so strongly connected with April at Getting My Act Together! April is an Alabama gal and a military mom of four who’s lived all around the country for the past 20 years. And – if you’re getting ready for your next big move (like the two of us are) or your current place is in need of a decluttering overhaul – April’s the gal to turn to for tips!
One of the first things that April recommends (whether you’re selling or relocating) is doing a major declutter of your home, so that it shows well and you have less stuff to lug to the next place! April’s newly decluttered home looks so lovely – be sure to stop by and check out the pics!
April also provides a 2 Months Out Moving Checklist For The Perfect Move and the 16 Steps of the Moving Process which sounds totally overwhelming but is actually very helpful! (Steps 1 and 15 are brilliant. I’m working my way through Steps 2, 3 and 4. I’m determined to avoid Step 5 as much as possible – which leads me back to Step 2!)
Now, I have to tell you, there’s a lot more to April and her blog than moving and decluttering. You’ll also find parenting advice and a variety of self-help topics encompassing positive thinking, goals, productivity and time management. And – if you’re in need of encouragement – there’s some faith-based inspiration for you as well. Whether you’re moving or just feeling under attack, be sure to check out God Is With You In The Midst Of The Storm.
Making new friends and deepening existing relationships is a joy. Be sure to visit April this week, leave her some comment love, and congratulate her for being our Friend Of The Week at Friendship Friday at Create With Joy!

Praying you find a place to live soon. Thanks for hosting.
Thanks for joining Ellen – I hope you are doing well!
I had the feeling a move was the upheaval! Good luck finding a new place and getting everything and everyone there safely!
Thanks Bernadette. Moving Magellan safely is one of my biggest concerns and highest priorities in the midst of all of this!
Wow! That would be a shocking surprise. I’ll be praying you find a new place soon. Thanks for the party.
Thanks Amy!
Thankful as usual for your faithfulness here!
Thanks Michele – I appreciate you faithfully leaving a comment every time you visit! 🙂
Oh my goodness, I am hearing these rental nightmares from so many people. Sending you lots of positive energy and hoping you find your perfect place quickly!
Shelbee
Thanks Shelbee – doing my best to soak all of that positive energy in! 🙂
I’m so sorry that you have to move, especially so suddenly and not by your own choosing! I will be praying that God has unexpected blessings in it all. I’m very much of a homebody and don’t like major upheavals. Most of the time, I wouldn’t choose to make major changes unless forced to. Later I often realize how I was settling for less than God’s best and He had to push me toward some blessing.
Thanks Donna – I am doing my best to be open to what God has for me and where He may be leading me during this season of transition but honestly, it’s challenging. I truly appreciate your prayers.
I’m sorry. It is sadly one of the downsides to renting. Landlords have life changes and they can really make your life challenging. I rented from a company that went into bankrupcy and had to get a lawyer as several people were claiming owernship of the building and wanted us to pay multiple rents. Thankfully, we had a good lawyer who helped them to understand escrow and while it cost us a little extra it was worth not paying out duplicate rents we didn’t have at that time.
Lots of prayers that this turns out to be a positive experience and that you end up with an amazing opportunity for an even better place to live. I realize it can be hard to see in this economy but God has great plans, keep your faith.
As for the decluttering I’m thinking I need a plan to start a weekly toss out plan. We own here but we have so much stuff that has come here as others have moved, etc. and it is time for us to decide that stuff has a purpose or it has a need to be donated or dumped.
Thank you so much for your response. Your prayers and support mean so much to me during this challenging time!
I’ll keep you all posted as there is significant news to share.
Oh, Ramona, I’ll keep you in my prayers! If I had to move again, I’m not sure where I would pick. I’ve often thought that I’d like to be closer to an ocean! Here in Missouri, we are landlocked, but the southwestern part of the state is very pretty. I hate the winters here, so I’d probably not choose Missouri! 🙂
Thanks Pam! The ocean is nice but super expensive.
Didn’t know you were in Missouri – have a new friend who is also from there!
We are so sorry to hear about your housing situation, Ramona! Are you looking to stay in your current area? Prayers, purrs, and all good thoughts coming your way, dear friends.
Thanks Kevin – prayers are greatly needed and appreciated!
Our desire is to stay local but that will truly require a miracle from God (which we are praying for).
Otherwise we could literally end up anywhere – not sure what the future holds at this moment.
Awesome place. Yes, He will certainly always be there with us 🙂
Happy Sunday and thanks as always for hosting!
My pleasure! Love to you and all of the cats!
Oh no on the forced move! How sad. Hopefully you find something better in an even better location!
Thanks Lydia.
Sixty days to uproot your life! Yikes! Definitely praying!
Thank you Michele – definitely need them!
